    • The Road Warrior
This episode uses a bunch of plot elements from the Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior film, which starred Mel Gibson and was released in 1981:

The setting is in the desert with characters riding various vehicles.
Koopa's gang attacks the compound that holds the precious resource, which is tomato sauce, since there's been a drought of having pasta without it.
Princess Toadstool's gang has to retreat but also gets to escort a tomato sauce tanker truck from the compound.
Toad grabs a star and assumes the title of Toad Warrior.
Cars and other custom vehicles try to chase down the truck.
Toad has a showdown with King Koopa in a game of chicken.

    • ET The Extra Terrestrial:
E.C. The Extra Creepy is a reference to the movie ET The Extra Terrestrial, as they both involved a visitor from outer space.
