The title of this episode is a parody of Heisei Tanuki Gassen Pom Poko, which translates to "Heisei-era Tanuki War Pom Poko." The tanuki is a Japanese animal that closely resembles the racoon but is actually a member of the canine family, and "Pom Poko" is the sound tanuki make when they beat their bellies. Heisei Tanuki Gassen Pom Poko was a Studio Ghibli film directed by Isao Takahata.
