The Tenant of Wildfell Hall

Show Summary

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is a romantic drama mini-series directed by Mike Barker, based on the novel of the same name by Anne Bronte, which follows the arrival of a mysterious widow, Mrs. Helen Graham (Tara Fitzgerald), who moves herself and her young son Arthur (Jackson Leach) into Wildfell Hall, a decrepit old mansion. The Grahams’ presence in the surrounding community brings about an uproar as jealousies flare with farmer Gilbert Markham (Toby Stephens) stops his courting of Eliza Millward (Miranda Pleasence) in favor of Helen and begins a fight with his close friend, Mr. Lawrence (James Purefoy) over her hand. As time goes on, Helen’s past comes to light with stories of her husband, Lord Arthur Huntingdon (Rupert Graves), whose jealousy of her affections to their son and slow descent into drunkenness and adultery leads to Helen’s occupation in the crumbling mansion. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall shows the ups and downs of gossip and the devastating underside of relationships in this dark and tumbling Victorian-era tale.moreless
