"Maybe a cyclone did it!" "Yeah, maybe it blew it shut just like this!" *SLAP* Even something has simple as a door has great potential for the Stooges. This is a remake of 1949's "Hokus Pokus", and is actually about equal with the original. While in the original, the Stooges crippled neighbor Mary was the bad guy, the hypnotist Svengarlic is this time. The plot goes in a whole other direction. Gangsters always make ideal villians for the Stooges, but sadly there are no comical fights (just a big explosion, go figure). Pretty much run of the mill by the 50s, but it has its moments.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • In the original film Hokus Pokus (1949), the part of Mary was played by Mary Ainslee. Ainslee was unable to reprise her role for this remake, so Mary is played by Connie Cezan in new scenes for this film. Cezan is only seen from the back and doesn't speak, thus she blends in rather well.

    • When the camera pans from the poster advertising Svengarlic's show over to Svengarlic and his gang, the film has obviously been cut in the middle of the pan, where the archive footage changes to the new footage.

  • QUOTES (7)

    • (A board falls and hits Moe on the head.)
      Moe: Dog gone it!
(A huge piece of the ceiling falls on the Stooges.)

    • (Moe bangs Larry and Shemp's heads together.)
      Shemp: I hear bells.
      Moe: Jingle bellls?
      Shemp: Cow bells...
Moe: Well, let's try for jingle bells!
      (Moe hits their heads again.)
      Shemp: Still cow bells...
      Moe: I'll fix that!
(He shakes Shemp's head and it jingles.)

    • Moe: Did you guys slam that door?
      Henchman: Yeah!
      Henchman: What about it?
Moe: Nothing, you can slam it any time you like!

    • (A door opens and hits the Stooges in the back.)
Moe: Which one of you slammed that door shut?
      Shemp: Not me.
Larry: Say, maybe a cyclone did it!
Moe: Maybe it blew shut like this!
(Moe slams the door into Larry's head.)

    • (Larry bumps into a showgirl and makes her slop her ice cream all over face. He scoops the ice cream back into the cone and gives it to her.)
Larry: There you are, toots! Good as new!
      Showgirl: Well, you eat it!
(She shoves the cone into Larry's face.)

    • Larry: And we better get to work before we get fired!
Moe: Oh, you're in a hurry, eh? All right!
(Moe grabs Larry's hair and drags him out the door.)

    • Larry: Hey hey hey! Break it up, you guys! We gotta go to work, Mary's waiting for her breakfast, we gotta shave, and you guys are playin' games!
      Moe: Shut up!
(Moe tries to poke Larry in the eyes, but Larry blocks him. Moe goes around the block and pokes him. )
