  • The Stooges help a blacksmith win a princess and foil an assassination attempt on King Arthur.

A remake with a fair amount of stock footage of the 1948 film Squareheads of the Round Table, but this one is better. There are lots of funny new scenes. The opening, in which the Stooges play act the romantic drama is worth seeing. Larry, in drag no less, manages to steal the show. This is the best of this film. The rest of the film is all routine. The Stooges team up, save the day, and throw fruit at the bad guys. It's all pure, simple fun. Sadly, this was the last Stooges film for the greatest of all Stooges supprting actors, Vernon B. Dent. An underrated entry that is sure to bring a smile to your face.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • When Shemp enters Elaine's bedroom and asks if she's lying in bed, the camera cuts to a close-up of King Arthur in her bed. At that same time, a feminine voice can be heard saying "Yes". We are supposed to believe that the King is tricking Shemp, but the King's lips weren't moving, meaning that the voice is dubbed in.

    • When Cedric slaps Moe and Larry on their backs and accidentally makes them bonk their heads, it is quote obvious that their heads were nowhere near each other.

    • In the stock footage from Squareheads of the Round Table (1948), Harold Brauer plays Sir Satchel, but in the footage new to this film, Joe Palma plays the part. The two actors look nothing alike, making it very obvious which footage was filmed later.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Moe: But where can we find Cedric this village blacksmith?
Elaine: Under the spreading chestnut tree...around the corner, by the pawn shop, at the corner of Pittsfield and Tonsylvania!

    • (Elaine begins crying during the Stooges' act.)
Larry: I don't understand it! This routine killed 'em in Kookamunga!

    • The Stooges: (singing) We are troubadours, one, two, three! Why did my lady send for we?

  • NOTES (2)

    • This was the last Stooges short to feature supporting actor Vernon Dent, who had been appearing with the Stooges since 1936. However, stock footage of him would continue to be used in other Stooges films throughout the 50s.

    • This short is a remake, with archive footage, of the previous Stooges film Squareheads of the Round Table (1948).
