Episode Summary

EDIT
Grandpa Wore Tights
AIRED:
The Terror sends his so-so villainous son Terry to recover his Desire-O-Vac - he lost it in an epic battle against the Decency Squad decades ago. The Tick is there listening to the old-time Squadders' tales and eventually gets involved, but it's a rebellious Terry and the aged Decency Squad members who save the day.moreless

  • The Terror continues his rain of Terror

    9.0
It starts out with a bunch of old superheros named the Deconcy Squad telling stories to The Tick and Arthur about the time they stopped The Terror and Joesph Stallin from taking over the world. Of course Arthur dosen't believe them but The Tick does and another person at the home is anxious to hear them espically about the desiro-vac a machine that will give you anything you want. I turns out that the perosn who listen to all there storys was the Terrors son, Terry, who The Terror used to find out where the desiro-vac was, so when he finds out he breaks The Human Ton and Handy, who is wearing an eyepacht form when arthur ripped his eye out, to help him get it. This was a good episode, although it wasn't as good as The Tick vs. Arthurs bank account, but still pretty good. My favorite member of the Deconcy Squad is the Living Doll, who is like a Russian doll and his battle cry is "I'm full of tinner men." and his battle with The Human Ton and Handy is one of the best, where The Human Ton wrestles him and breaks him in half to revel another one and he does the same thing until he's small enough to fight Handy and he rips his other eye out. We finally find out what The Tick's antennes are for, like an insect, they are for balance. One of my favorite things in this episode is when The Tick puts on the desiro-vac and says " Give me a BLT." and he's mad at it because it has no mayonese.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • The Decency Squad are reminiscent of the old Golden Age superheroes.

Capt. Decency is only active in the flashbacks; he sleeps throughout the entire episode.

Johnny Polite resembles Batman's sidekick Robin (particularly the Silver Age comics' Robin).

The Living Doll and SufraJet are apparently married.

Johnny Polite isn't seen in the present, nor is there any mention of whatever became of him. In the Tick book "Mighty Blue Justice", there is a page honoring the superheroes' deceased sidekicks, all named Johnny, who were all seemingly killed in the line of duty. There is also a memorial to a Johnny sidekick on the door of the Sidekicks' Lounge in "The Tick VS The Tick", so perhaps Johnny Polite met with an untimely end during one of the Squad's missions.

  • QUOTES (4)

  • NOTES (3)

    • The second appearance of The Human Ton and Handy.

In this episode, Handy wears an eye patch. (Arthur dislodged his other eye when he stomps on him in "The Tick VS Arthur's Bank Account".)

    • The Decency Squad consists of: Captain Decency, his sidekick Johnny Polite, The Visual Eye ("Rockets from the sockets!"), The Living Doll (He's full of tinier men!) and SufraJet ("I vote for goodness!")

    • We finally find out what the Tick's antennae do - they let him maintain his balance.

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • The Terror's mask looks a lot like Cobra Commander's from G.I. Joe.

    • This episode's title may be a play on the 1947 musical Mother Wore Tights, starring Betty Grable and Dan Dailey, about two vaudevillians who marry and find fame as they raise a family on the road.
