  • Kinda Sweet

    8.0
Tony and Doug arrive in Pearl Harbor and Tony has a chance to see his father again before he dies. Its sweet and adds some background and character to the Tony character. Other than that it is a pretty boring episode that has every Japanese person in it playing an evil war spy
  • Tony and Doug find themselves on Oahu, Hawaii on the eve of the attack on Pearl Harbor. For Tony, it is suddenly very personal, because as a little boy, he lived close by, and his father, a Navy LTCMDR, was missing, presumed dead, body never found.moreless

I loved it......masterfully done. Would that all the rest of the episodes had stuck to straight historical events instead of delving into aliens invading and such. The ending, where Tony finally finds his dying father, was especially heart-wrenching. He could finally reveal who he truly was, but his heart was broken by the fact that he could not save his father from the death he was fated to suffer. It brought tears to my eyes, and also my wife who had never seen it before.moreless

  • TRIVIA (6)

    • Tony says he was seven during the attack of Pearl Harbor, but in the pilot episode he said he was born in 1938, which would make him three.

    • Tony states that his father was a Lieutenant Commander. Yet the shoulder bars on his naval uniform are those of a Commander.

    • Some of the images we see the scientists observing are in black and white (probably from stock footage) which makes no sense considering--as they are so inclined to explain to us in this episode--they are apparently watching the real thing.

    • When the base personnel are watching a captured Tony and Doug at night, the footage they see suddenly changes to daytime footage of the Japanese fleet. Kirk specifically says that it is the fleet heading for Pearl Harbor, so there's every indication they are seeking the fleet at the same time that Tony and Doug are captured.

    • When Tony and Doug enter the naval communications center for the emotional scene with Tony's dying father, all outside noise of the bombing raid suddenly stops and there's no background noise at all throughout the scene. As soon as they leave the building, the background noise starts up again.

    • When the Japanese bomb detonates in the naval communications center with Doug & Tony watching, we see stock footage of what looks like a farm building blowing up - a building which bears absolutely no resemblance to the building we saw earlier serving as the naval communications center.

  • QUOTES (4)

    • Tasaka: What are you doing here? Who are you?
      Doug: We're tourists. Just sightseeing.
Tasaka: Nobody sightsees inside the Japanese consulate.

    • Tasaka: All this talk of time tunnels and children. Meaningless babble.
Doug: We gave you a glimpse into the future, but you won't accept it because it destroys your dream of world empire.

    • Jerry: The Japanese are going to attack in less than half an hour. We can't just stand here and let this happen.
      Anne: Jerry, it did happen.
Jerry: They're all going to be killed.
Swain: It was in 1941, Jerry.
Jerry: This isn't just a picture. It's a real thing happening, isn't it?
Kirk: That's right. We're looking back into time to what's happening.
Jerry: Then let's try to do something about it.
Kirk: Jerry, some day you'll realize that all men have to live with their past. It can't be changed

    • Commander Newman: You said you knew me a long time ago. And that you've always remembered.
Tony: My name is... is Tony Newman.
Commander Newman: Tony Newman. I know you. I know you as well as I know my own son.
Tony: (crying) I... I am your son.
Commander Newman: It's good to know my little boy will survive.
