Episode Summary

EDIT
The guys land in a Western town in the late 19th century, where they are intercepted by two silver-clad aliens. The two aliens need to steal protein to supplement their own supplies, and soon use their advanced technology to mind-control Doug and hold the confused townspeople at bay while stealing local cattle. Tony manages to get hold of one of the alien control devices. Meanwhile, at Project TickTock the same alien race but from 1966 arrive and demand to know what happened to their scouting party a hundred years earlier, believing the Project to have something to do with it. Tony manages to free Doug from mind control and defeat the aliens in the past, while the ones in the present witness the departure of the scouting party in the past and are satisfied Earth had nothing to do with their disappearance.moreless

I think Time Tunnel should have stuck to historical events rather than go off onto Aliens and things like this. In this particular episode, we learn that Tony and Doug are captured by Aliens who are interested in taking over an Arizona town for food & protein. Nice touch with the cowardly bartender who betrayed his friends so he would not get hurt. Gave some meat to the plot. I would have liked to have seen more involvement with the Apaches who were incidental to the story. Doug getting mind control has been done before. The additional plot of this same Alien race coming to the 1966 Time Tunnel project TicTock and demanding proof of what happened to their ship of 100 years before was silly as the leader kept whining about wanting proof while making a lightning storm in the middle of the room while Lee Meriwether freaked out, uncharacteristically. That whole part could have been cut out and would have tightened the story.moreless

    • One of the most often-cited (and justified) quibbles about "Time Tunnel" - namely that wherever and whenever the time travellers end up, everyone speaks fluent English - is actually addressed in this episode for the first and only time.
When Tony & Doug first encounter the silver-skinned aliens here, the latter initially speak their own unintelligible alien language. When they find that the time travellers can't understand them, they put them in a contraption that they call a "translation loop" - and the problem is solved!
