Show Summary

On January 14 1952, The Today Show, a long running morning news program on NBC, went on the air. It aired at 7:00 A.M. (Eastern Time) as a 2-hour news and information show. For many years it was a 2-hour program from 7:00 to 9:00 ET, until NBC expanded it to 3 hours (7-10 A.M. Eastern Time) on October 2, 2000. On September 10, 2007 a fourth hour was added to the show. Today was the first of its genre when it first signed on with host Dave Garroway. The show successfully blends national news headlines, in-depth interviews with newsmakers, lifestyle features, other light news and gimmicks (including the presence of the chimpanzee J. Fred Muggs as the show's mascot during the early years), and local news updates. It has spawned several other shows of a similar type, including ABC's Good Morning America, CBS's The Early Show, and the Canadian series, Canada AM. The show is filmed and produced at studio 1A in Rockefeller Center, New York, just across the street from NBC headquarters at the GE Building. The studio is located right next to the street and many times the hosts do the weather or other events from outside. Today was the brainchild of Pat Weaver, who was then vice-president of NBC. Later, he became president of the company from 1953 to 1955, and then served as chairman of the board for another year. The show is currently hosted by Meredith Viera and Matt Lauer. Al Roker does weather updates and Ann Curry reads news headlines. Gene Shalit is the entertainment critic. Previous hosts have included Bryant Gumbel, Jane Pauley, Deborah Norville, Tom Brokaw, Barbara Walters, Hugh Downs, and Flyod Kalber. Popular former weathercaster Willard Scott still appears on the show daily doing the 100th birthday announcements he first became famous for in the 1980s.moreless

  • I give up

    1.0
I have watched the Today Show for years. I have never jumped ship until now, and I joined this discussion just to put in my two cents worth. It has gotten way over the top in their talking over each other. I tuned in only for the first 30 minutes, but don't even do that now. The stupid run-together comments and the terrible jokes after the News is read has to stop. The incessant banter makes all the panel look inept. You are not professional comedians! Tamron is the worst offender of them all. If she is to be retained as a permanent fixture, tone it down and act professionally! If anyone in the Corporate NBC cloud is watching, look over all these comments!moreless
  • Goodbye Today Show

I am so surprised about the comments listed below. I knew I wasn't the only one thinking the Today Show has become so annoying, it's getting hard to watch. I don't know who is the biggest loser on 'talking over each other", but I think it's Tamara Hall. She needs to find something else to do instead of sitting at the anchor desk. Doesn't matter. I've given the show a lot of watching for years and will now switch to either CNN or GMA. Does anyone from Corporate read reviews? Oh, one more thing, Savannah, I know getting married, then announcing we're pregnant was the 'old fashioned' way of doing things, but apparently you do not. Nice role model! Stop wearing clothes that don't fit you anymore. Another reason to stop watching. AND ANCHORS: STOP SAYING 'BASICALLY".moreless
  • Tamara Hall

    9.0
I agree with all the NEGATIVE Tamara Hall remarks. The talking over each other is driving me crazy!! I have watched the Today Show every morning for 20 years. I want to change but I love Matt. I must decide if he is worth all the other horrible personalities. I'm a female but I truly think there is too many females and they try to "out do" each other and get the attention!! Not crazy about any of the females. And Tamara's wardrobe with the I saymoreless

Tamron Hall is dreadful. I just watched the Easter egg hunt and all you could hear the entire hunt was Tamron Hall yelling. She talks over everyone, she has distracting facial contortions and she just has to chime in on everything. Whomever thought it was a good idea to have so many people at the anchor desk yelling and talking over each other should be fired. I watched the Today show my entire life but changed to GMA for the first 2 hours when Ann Curry was promoted. I tried the third hour because in my city, Kelly and Regis are not on against the 3rd hour and love Willie Geist but now with Tamron, will switch to CNN. I just can't stand it.moreless
  • Difficult to watch Tamron Hall on the Today Show

    1.0
I don't understand why Tamron Hall is a regular on the Today Show. She is difficult to watch. Not sure if it's the constant look of wide-eyed disbelief she always has on her face and/or the know-it-all attitude which is contrary to the dumb look on her face that turns me off. Whichever it is I'm going to start watching one of the other morning shows until she is no longer a regular co-host.

I've not seen her in her other roles but hopefully it's a better fit than this one.moreless
