Show Summary

  • Returning Series
On January 14 1952, The Today Show, a long running morning news program on NBC, went on the air. It aired at 7:00 A.M. (Eastern Time) as a 2-hour news and information show. For many years it was a 2-hour program from 7:00 to 9:00 ET, until NBC expanded it to 3 hours (7-10 A.M. Eastern Time) on October 2, 2000. On September 10, 2007 a fourth hour was added to the show.''''Today was the first of its genre when it first signed on with host Dave Garroway. The show successfully blends national news headlines, in-depth interviews with newsmakers, lifestyle features, other light news and gimmicks (including the presence of the chimpanzee J. Fred Muggs as the show's mascot during the early years), and local news updates. It has spawned several other shows of a similar type, including ABC's Good Morning America, CBS's The Early Show, and the Canadian series, Canada AM.''''The show is filmed and produced at studio 1A in Rockefeller Center, New York, just across the street from NBC headquarters at the GE Building. The studio is located right next to the street and many times the hosts do the weather or other events from outside.''''Today was the brainchild of Pat Weaver, who was then vice-president of NBC. Later, he became president of the company from 1953 to 1955, and then served as chairman of the board for another year.''''The show is currently hosted by Meredith Viera and Matt Lauer. Al Roker does weather updates and Ann Curry reads news headlines. Gene Shalit is the entertainment critic.''''Previous hosts have included Bryant Gumbel, Jane Pauley, Deborah Norville, Tom Brokaw, Barbara Walters, Hugh Downs, and Flyod Kalber. Popular former weathercaster Willard Scott still appears on the show daily doing the 100th birthday announcements he first became famous for in the 1980s.moreless

Nancy Snyderman is so over the top! What castle did she crawl out of to bless us with her "pearls of wisdom"? She comes off as self righteous snob, just what this world needs more of. Her comments on Paula Dean were out of line! Paula Dean has an illness. This woman is trying to change and my hope is we get another great cookbook from her. However I will still enjoy the many cookbooks she has written even if they are only used on special occasions. Nancy Snyderman is what is wrong with this country, blaming others for ones problems. Celebrities are not our leaders, nor are they expected to teach us. America needs to learn about "personal responsibility" and quit taking advice from women like her.moreless

I only watch the"today show" in the morning and have been since 1998. Matt Lauer is awesome. Ann Curry, Al Roker and Natalie are so good as well. I'm glad Meredith is gone..she never really fit in. Of course she was much better than Katie Couric! I can't see ever watching another morning show...

I have been watching this show since I was about 5 years old. My whole family enjoys this show. We have always turned this tv show on every morning when we wake up. When I get ready for school I like to listen to it; it really lets me know what's going on in the world. All of the cast is wonderful and they have great chemistry. I love to watch them interact with one another and I can feel a special bond between each of them. I know some people hate this show but I really cannot see why.moreless

My mom, every morning, always has this on when I got to school. Now, I only get to watch it for 20 minutes, since I wake up at 7:00, I still like it. It can come up with the best, and most interesting, news stories ever!

From 7-10 every morning, is a decent ammount of time, and I don't think they should add on, but maybe have it only 7-9:30. Well, actually, they do alot of fun stuff, so, probably leave it as it is.

So, if you wake up early and want to watch TV cuase yuo can't go back to sleep, watch this, because it inform you on events and gives you fun!moreless
