  • Returning Series
On January 14 1952, The Today Show, a long running morning news program on NBC, went on the air. It aired at 7:00 A.M. (Eastern Time) as a 2-hour news and information show. For many years it was a 2-hour program from 7:00 to 9:00 ET, until NBC expanded it to 3 hours (7-10 A.M. Eastern Time) on October 2, 2000. On September 10, 2007 a fourth hour was added to the show. Today was the first of its genre when it first signed on with host Dave Garroway. The show successfully blends national news headlines, in-depth interviews with newsmakers, lifestyle features, other light news and gimmicks (including the presence of the chimpanzee J. Fred Muggs as the show's mascot during the early years), and local news updates. It has spawned several other shows of a similar type, including ABC's Good Morning America, CBS's The Early Show, and the Canadian series, Canada AM. The show is filmed and produced at studio 1A in Rockefeller Center, New York, just across the street from NBC headquarters at the GE Building. The studio is located right next to the street and many times the hosts do the weather or other events from outside. Today was the brainchild of Pat Weaver, who was then vice-president of NBC. Later, he became president of the company from 1953 to 1955, and then served as chairman of the board for another year. The show is currently hosted by Meredith Viera and Matt Lauer. Al Roker does weather updates and Ann Curry reads news headlines. Gene Shalit is the entertainment critic. Previous hosts have included Bryant Gumbel, Jane Pauley, Deborah Norville, Tom Brokaw, Barbara Walters, Hugh Downs, and Flyod Kalber. Popular former weathercaster Willard Scott still appears on the show daily doing the 100th birthday announcements he first became famous for in the 1980s.moreless

No wonder it's a legendary show. Great stuff you DO want to hear as you start your day...
  • Get Rid of Rosie

    "Abysmal"
I've watched the Today Show for more years than I can count. Although it will never be the same since Meredith left, it has really sunk to a new depth. Rosie is disgustingly rude. She made the news the first day & the Today Show needs better press than that. I stopped watching the View when she came on board. You've lost a loyal fan.
  • Interview with Christie Brinkley

Matt Lauer, what is wrong with you? I agree with a former reviewer who says you berate your guests. You made Christie repeat herself over and over that SHE hasn't SAID anything in the past four years; her HUSBAND keeps stirring the pot. You went at her about the health of her children, expecting her to control her husband's behavior!! You literally reduced her to tears in her attempt to defend herself against your DEAF EAR and bad behavior. AND, realizing you had done so, you so condescendingly "offered" to have her back on the show to talk about her Broadway show because you had run out of time! You turned my stomach; so very unprofessional. I demand that you have Christie back on the show next week to STRICTLY talk about her show AND you begin that interview with an APOLOGY. You need to get over yourself, Matt. The fall off of that very tall horse you're riding has a long, long fall. Leave the FEMALE interviews to ANN. You clearly had a "hidden agenda" with Christie.moreless
  • Cut back on the today show

The today show is great, I've been watching it for years. They do need to drop motor mouth Kelly Rippa and winey arrogant Kathy Lee Gifford (Hoda is great)
  • Interviewing

    3.0
    "Bad"
I have been a fan for many years and I have reached a point where you are no longer informative. Matt interviews well and most of his stories and commentaries are relivant and interesting, on the other Ann Curry is not a good interviewer. Her interviews turn into pity parties as in the interview today about texting and she asks about how they feel about loosing their daughter, that has to be the stupidest question in the world , they are heart broken and don t need to be told you feel for their loss, thats a given. Just interview and let the interviewees provide the emotion. Ann reminds me of Merideth and her bad interviewing. I would like to keep watching but I get tired of all the gees and ahhhs.
