AIRED:

Staying Up for Independence Day. Special six-hour salute to the Fourth of July, telecast live.
With locales ranging from London to Las Vegas and with topics spanning politics, health, the economy and the arts, this ambitious program is mostly concerned with examining the state of the Nation today and according to producer Joel Tator, "where it's heading in the near future".
But American traditions are to be surveyed as well in Atlanta at 3 A.M., there's a scheduled look at preparations for the city's Independence Day parade and in Baltimore at 4 A.M., a re-enactment of the British shelling of Fort McHenry in 1814, when Francis Scott Key wrote, "The Star-Spangled Banner" which in 1931 became the national anthem.
From New York, host Tom Snyder is scheduled to interview tourists in Las Vegas, young people at Harvard and a family of expatriates in London. The guests in studio are Jimmy Breslin, Harry Chapin, Erica Jong and Dr. Werner Von Braun.
