What happened last week? Jay, Conan, Letterman off the air?

Hi all, I'm not from the US so forgive me for being ignorant... there's probably a very simple answer to my question.

I noticed that last week (October 20 to 25) none of the regular talk shows were broadcasting instead showing reruns. What's the reason for Leno as well as O'Brien as well as Letterman being off the air for a full week? They surely can't be on holiday all at the same time? Especially with the election around the corner?

    Please enlighten me. Thanks.

It's a common practice to have a "silent agreement" on which week to take off, so they don't have to worry about competitors being on while you are off. It's not something special going on in the States, just a schedule off week.

Alright, thanks for the info! Makes sense. Although, it does surprise me they decided to do that so close to the election. Ah well, there's plenty of time this week to rip on Sarah Palin.
