One question: why can no-one pronounce the surname of the 19th-century Poet Laureate Robert Southey any more? It should be "Suth'ee", not "Sowth-ee", as everyone says here - Ian Hislop made the same mistake in his series on Victorian do-gooders, and everyone gets it wrong in the movie "Pandaemonium", where Southey, Coleridge and Wordsworth are central characters. Still, that's one's only objection to this episode, where beautiful landscapes perfectly offset quietly subversive comedy. Steve's annoyment with Rob's funny voices gets worse when they find they can only get into the Wordsworth museum at Dove Cottage if Rob charms the lady curator with his "little man in the box" voice. Steve, who wants so desperately to be taken seriously, gets nowhere by haranguing her - and cheerful, funny Rob also knows more about the poetry than he does. An understated comic gem.moreless
