The episode opens with Rakushun attending class. He is getting a hard time due to the fact that he in a hanjyuu. The principle comes to see him and tells him he has achieved the highest scoring on his tests in the whole school. Rakushun is the center of attention. Later, the bird Youko gave Rakushun appears in his window and replays Youko's message. She tells him how Keiki is constantly nagging her of her duties. She also tells him how she went to visit Rakushun's mother. She describes how her mother took her in for the night and gave her dinner. Next she tells him how she went to meet the late King Kou's children. A son and daughter, they told her that there was a kaikayu spotted lately, and that it is a man. Youko knows they are speaking of Asano.. And how she plans to look for him soon. Rakushun replies to the message telling Youko how well he is doing in school, and how she needs to hang in there. Back in Kei, Youko's officials seem to be poking fun at her lack of kingdom knowledge. Later Youko gets the message from Rakushun and is happy he doing alright. Back at Rakushun's school.. Rakushun is still getting hasseled about being a "rat". That night Enki comes to visit Rakushun.. He assures her that Youko is doing fine. Rakushun is relieved. • You know this episode is good because it's concentrated on Rakushun.

    8.8
Even in the kingdom of En, it's difficult for a hanjyuu to thrive. Rakushun has been getting some special treatment for the fact that he's a rat. He tries staying in his human form, but it's hard for him to adjust. Then, a professor approaches him, and offers him a scholarship because of his high scores in tests. Then, he receives a bird that is able to record voices and replay them. It's Youko, and she tells him about many things that has happened so far, and the conditions she has to face as queen. Youko visited the daughter and son of King Kou, and even went to see Rakushun's mother. She also confirms Asano is still alive, and hopes to find him one day. Rakushun writes back, reassuring her that she'll become a successful ruler once she adapts to her new life.

This was a nice sweet little episode. It really hasn't risen up to the level of a love relationship (yet), but it was still a sweet little concept, especially with that really cool bird that can record voices. Anyways, it's great to see Rakushun succeeding like he deserves, though it seems like the guy can never catch a break. Still discriminated to an extent, but then it's great again to see him getting a scholarship.moreless
