Rockne S. O'Bannon is a famous screenwriter who has not written anything original in 20 years. He even says so to his neighbor who recommends retirement. Later that day he is heading for his car when he spots a hooded dwarf-creature which starts running towards but he manages to get into his car and escape.
Later that night his car is trashed not by one but by several of the same hooded creatures. When he asks his friends if they were able to see who was beating his car, they answer that no one was there. Rockne concludes that he is the only one who can see them.
The next day the creatures are even more bold, getting into his apartment and trashing the whole place. In the end, Rockne is cornered by the creatures and all that Rockne can say is: what do you want from me? And all the hooded creatures can say is: "Write about us!" Realizing this is the only good idea he has had in the last twenty years he starts writing about them on his typewriter and the creatures vanish one by one.
