  • Divorced woman going through hard emotional times finds lamp that will "give her all she wants"

Apparently when your life sucks we get chances to change and turn things around but in the twilight zone you just have to rub a lamp and your wishes will be true.

This episode was an OK watch, nothing special nor bad. We see how wishes are never perfect in an twilight zone episode, always something has to go wrong. in this case wishes are given at a bank in which you have to go through a lot of paperwork.

Only one wish is granted bypassing all policies of the bank, check it out and find out.moreless
  • A woman finds a magical lamp at a yard sale, but instead of a genie discovers that she must deal with a painstaking DMV-like bureaucracy to claim her three wishes.

The first season of the new Twilight Zone is filled with short stories like this, as each episode was broken down into several segments. While some of these stories showed promise (The Children's Zoo, Dreams For Sale), Wish Bank is a rather stale recycling of an established science fiction cliche. The writing cleverly pokes fun of the genie in a bottle convention that the third wish must be used to undo the unforeseen harm done by the first two, but the DMV theme falls flat. In the end, the protagonist does have to use her wish to put things back the way they were, but why is this wish instantly granted while her other ones required hours of cutting through red tape? These ten minutes would have been better used to expand on more cleverly thought out short installments.moreless
  • A woman finds a lamp at a garage sale and has to go through a bunch of red tape at a "wish bank" (like a loan offic) to get her wishes.moreless

Sci-fi shows eventually deal with the three wishes plot line. They did it in X-Files one time. I guess it's a matter of how the writers put a spin on the age old tale that makes the story either work or not work.

Effectively commenting on 80's beauacracy, a woman must fill out numerous forms and wait in line for two hours to get her wishes. Eventually, she gets so fed up with the situation that she wishes that she never rubbed the lamp.

This was a particularly short and light episode for this other wise dark and twisted series. Usually, when one of these episodes appear, it means that there's another in the same airing that is a real doozy. "Nightcrawlers," the episode after this one, was the real marquee episode of this particular airing.moreless
