  • New Begining

A second chance a fresh new start is something most of us always desire if we ever did something wrong with our lives or have been wronged, eventually we do get that chance. This is a tale that I really like that I think is a bit underrated. It's a simple love story but done right.

What I love about this episode is how much were in the shadows in the story which makes it a little suspensful and facinating, as the sittuation develops between both the man and woman from different planets that have crash landed on a forgin planet. This story tricks us with the little information we get feed as the story progresses which causes us to prematurely make assumptions about who both the man and women are as well as the planets the come from when in reality we know nothing.

I did love the chemestry between both Cook and Nooria. Nooria was tired, scared and distrustful of Cook at first due to the fact he was from antoher planet which we assumed is Earth, and possibly both their planets are at war, but she warms up to him slowly as she sees he means no harm. Likewise for Cook whom is a person that is tired, weary, and lonely he's a person that desires another chance at life, Nooria is that chance. When he sees Nooria he doesn't want to fight with her he wants to be friends with her.

The only weakness of this episode is I don't feel both character had enough interaction time, probably due to time limitations, but this is a minor complant I can get past.

And of course that twist at the end was great because we discover what this tale really was a sci-fi retelling of the Adam and Eve story. I thought this was very cleaver and sweet, this is something that has actually been done numerious times like the sci-fi film "The Quiet Earth".

Love with another person is the step to a new begining.moreless
  • Trapped alone on another planet, no way home.

The first person we are introduced to is Colonel Cook, an astronaut who has crashlanded on a planet light years away from his own. He is healthy, but has a broken rib. Naturally, I assumed he was from Earth. The officer he speaks to on the communicator acknowledges the existence of God. Apparently Col. Cook's planet is on the verge of nuclear war and ultimate destruction. He is unfortunate to be alone on an alien planet, but fortunate to be away from that. However, he is not alone. One night, he finds that someone has drawn something in the sand near his ship, and that someone is lurking in the bushes. Then, the next morning, he catches the person doing the lurking: a woman. Since they don't speak each other's language, they communicate through sand drawings. Cook learns that the woman, Norda, has crashed on the planet alone, too. She escaped from her planet because it had gone off of it's orbit. When Cook picks up his stick, Norda gets scared and runs away. Back at his ship, Cook discovers the final message he would ever get from his planet, wishing him good luck in his new world. Cook then finds Norda outside his ship. He deduces that she wishes to come with him, he agrees. Cook then names the planet for Norda's word for dirt: Earth. They learn each other's full names: Adam Cook and Eve Norda. This story shows a modern twist on the story of creation. I enjoyed it thoroughly.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Trivia: The female's language alludes to English in the following ways: backwards words (eman = name), words with letters switched (seppla = apples) or words with creative pronunciations (earth = rt-ha).

    • The image on the monitor screen is level with the main scene, rather than tilted to match the tilt of the screen.

  • QUOTES (5)

    • (Opening Narration)
Narrator: One Colonel Cook, a traveler in space. He's landed on a remote planet several million miles from his point of departure. He can make an inventory of his plight by just one 360 degree movement of head and eyes. Colonel Cook has been set adrift in an ocean of space in a metal lifeboat that has been scorched and destroyed and will never fly again. He survived the crash but his ordeal is yet to begin. Now he must give battle to loneliness. Now Colonel Cook must meet the unknown. It's a small planet set deep in space, but for Colonel Cook it's the Twilight Zone.

    • Cook: Do you know what's going to happen in a few minutes? I'm gonna to wake up from this nightmare. I'm gonna charge out of bed like a rocket and I'm gonna tell them back home, "You can talk about dreams from now on, but I get the prize for the most imaginative dream of the Space Age."

    • Larrabee: Our world is doing a little wholesale dying now.

    • Larrabee: Probe 7, this is Base. This is our last contact, Cook. Just a few minutes ago, we got ours. Five hundred percent increase in the radioactivity around us. From what we can gather, the enemy had it just as bad as we did. We wiped them out, they wiped us out. Just one last forlorn wish for you, son. Whoever you meet there, however you meet them, I hope it can come without fear, I hope it come without anger. I hope your new world will be different. I hope you'll find no word such as hate.

    • (Closing Narration)
Narrator: Do you know these people? Names familiar, are they? They lived a long time ago. Perhaps they're part fable, perhaps their part fantasy. And perhaps the place they're walking to now is not really called 'Eden'. We offer it only as a presumption. This has been the Twilight Zone.
