      • This episode is based on the play Apple of His Eye by Kenyon Nicholson and Charles Robinson. During its Broadway (2/5/1946-5/18/1946), the role of Sam Stover was played by Walter Houston. During its run, Houston sang "September Song" which he'd introduced in the 1938 musical Knickerbocker Holiday. After using it in this second show, it became a popular standard.
