  • This is one of my favorite episodes because I really like the Thompson submachine gun.

If you like "choppers" you will love this episode as it is about the Capone mob and the Moran gang buying and later making Thompson submachine guns to use on each other. After the bloodiest period in Chicago's history, including the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, Ness confiscates the machine guns of both factions and then shuts off all sources so no new guns can come into the city. Under pressure from Big Al in Miami to get some more submachine guns within just 2 weeks or else, Frank Nitti finds a Polish immigrant master machinist who is able to easily convert a Springfield bolt action rifle into a semi-auto to make the machineguns in his home machine shop equipped by the Mob.moreless
  • Even Nitti can't save this one.

Arsenal gets my vote as the weakest episode of Season Three. The storyline is very disjointed and jumps around all over the place plus there's a little too much pathos. Even the presence of Bruce Gordon as Frank Nitti can't save this one. Gordon himself seems bored most of the time. When the Enforcer starts mailing it in you know things aren't good. One high point is the performance of Salome Jens as Eve Tobek whose husband is held hostage and force to make weapons for the mob.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Timeline Goof: The narration states that on February 16, 1929, Al Capone flew straight to Miami, and left Frank Nitti in charge of the Chicago operation. In actuality, Capone went to Miami prior to The Saint Valentine's Day Massacre. Nitti was in St. Louis, not Chicago, on February 16, 1929, getting married in a civil ceremony to second wife Anna Theresa Rango.

    • Goof: During the narration about The Saint Valentine's Day Massacre, seven hit-men with machine-guns are shown. At the actual event, only two machine-guns were used.

  • QUOTES (5)

    • Nitti: (to Moran) You keep takin' over my places, Al ain't gonna leave me in charge long enough to organize my own funeral.

    • Nitti: (about Capone) He must think I'm some kind of miracle man.

    • Ness: (to Moran) With your record, they'll convict you on general prinicple.

    • Lefty: So don't worry about it, Frank, we're doin' the best we can.
Nitti: Oh, I ain't gonna are. We're gonna have choppers. And if we don't, you're gonna be replaced...permanently.

    • Nitti: Let me give you a warning, Ness...a lot of punks have tried to buck the Organization. Most of 'em ended up goin' for a swim wearin' cement overshoes. What size you wear, huh?
