Double Cross
AIRED:

In order to put a crimp in Jake Guzik's monopoly of being the top booze supplier in Chicago, Eliot Ness goes into the supply business himself only to run afoul with District Attorney Beecher Asbury who reads Ness the riot act for "subverting the law to uphold it."

  • Jake's back but where's Frank?

    6.0
Nehemiah Persoff made his third and final appearance of the series as Jake "Greasy Thumb" Guzik who's a little different this time from his first two appearances. For one, he's now the head of "the Organization" a la Nitti and he even acts like Nitti right down to a few Nittiesque one liners. This leads me to suspect that Doublecross was originally a Season Three Nitti script which got shelved and wasn't filmed until the show's final season. The writers simply changed the name of the character from Nitti to Guzik along with a few of the locations and what you see here is the result. Not a bad episode by Season Four standards but hampered by the poor casting of Harry Morgan as Bugs Moran. Morgan tries hard but he simply isn't suited for the role.moreless
