  • Good script but flawed casting

    6.5
This Untouchables version of Bonnie and Clyde has a good script but is hampered by poor casting. Christopher Dark is stiff and wooden as lead villain Sheik Humphries and Anne Francis, though she tries hard, simply was the wrong choice to portray Doreen Maney. Francis simply wasn't hard-boiled enough for the part. Susan Oliver or 50's B-movie queen Peggie Castle would have been much better choices.

I agree with a previous reviewer that Richard Rust did a nice job in this episode. He would have been better playing Humphries instead of supporting baddie, Len Carson. Connie Hines, although she looks good, won't win any acting awards for her role in this episode either. Maybe it's why she ended up in Mr. Ed.

All in all, this is an episode that could have been memorable but instead ends up being only slightly above average due to poor casting choice. Sometimes you pays your money and you takes your chances.moreless
  • I bought this episode because Richard Rust is in it, and looking good, but I watch it occasionally because it's so good, and Anne Francis is a favorite of mine, too.moreless

The Untouchables where a woman is the star of the show are some of the best ones. There's the Rusty Heller story with Elizabeth Montgomery and Ma Barker with Claire Trevor and Testimony of Evil with Fay Spain, and of course, this episode, Doreen Maney with Anne Francis. It has a very good intense story and good acting by everyone. The action starts immediately and never ends. Even the clothes are good in this one! I recommend the Doreen Maney story as one of the best untouchables episodes. And for me, a Richard Rust fan, the most important one of all to have in my collection. He looks good in a suit designed in the 20s.moreless
