  • While hitmen Jim & Dennis are in KC, Jim falls for schoolmarm, who must alibi him for the morning of the hit; when she declines, Dennis kills, (Jim is clueless), and asks Jim for help on another job; Jim eventually gets even with Dennis through "Spooky".moreless

I first saw this in 1974 (age 12) and didn't care for it (not enough glamour or Untouchables); i saw it the other night and was quite moved by the hitman-falls-for-Plain Jane love story. Brian Keith gives a beautifully underrated performance and his soft voice and easy demeanor with the old maid has you rooting for them to make it. Of course, afetr he blasts two hoods in the back with a shotgun, you know that the episode will not end in his favor. James Coburn (Dennis) gets what he deserves. My only problem with ending is that raphael torres, who had been a model citizen and stayed clear of the law for more than 15 years, decides to "shoot it out" with the Feds; that seems to ring a bit hollow.moreless
  • Kansas City here I come.

    8.5
Any episode with the likes of Brian Keith, James Coburn, and Michael Ansara as guest stars simply cannot be bad. In this one Ness and the boys travel to Kansas City to try and stop the flow of rotgut Jamaica Ginger whiskey into the Midwest. Ansara plays the kingpin in control of the Ginger Jake racket. Keith and Coburn are two ace torpedoes whom Ansara hires to eliminate a rival mobster.

What's good about this episode is that there is a nice blend of pathos (Keith's romance with a spinster school teacher) and action (tied with Part 2 of The Big Train for the highest body count of Season Two). It's a shame the producers and writers of Season Four couldn't learn more from this episode.moreless
