  • Persoff in a sympathetic role.

    9.0
After assaying the roles of mobsters Jake Guzik, Johnny Fortunato, and Waxey Gordon, veteran character actor Nehemiah Persoff finally takes on a sympathetic role as Mr. Jaeger, a retired arsonist who's persuaded by a nasty band of criminal brothers to undertake one last job--burn evidence against them being stored in the basement of the Federal building.

Persoff does well in a change of pace role. Mr. Jaeger is comparable to Jake Guzik after 20 years in prison. He's old, tired, and worn out but can't resist one last chance at glory. Frank Sutton also makes his first of four guest appearances as Benny Stryker the youngest, dumbest, and most sympathetic of the four criminal Stryker brothers.moreless
