What has happened to Vampire Diaries? It used to be where we actually enjoyed the entire wasn't where we used to enjoy the entire thing although there were parts we looked forward to watching more than other parts of these days,it seems like the show has lost its storylines have gotten so boring to where the fans are only watching it for certain reasons and not really caring about the storyline only watching the show for a certain only reason is spices up the show,is funny, has great chemistry with anyone she has a scene with, her storyline of Nadia being her daughter that was taken away from her after she was born has been one of the best parts of the show, and there's nothing really that great to watch without just gonna be Elena being in love with both brothers,Caroline having bad luck with guys,Bonnie having bad luck period, and Matt having this phobia about not wanting to date a vampire no matter how hot she you people think you can go on watching the show with it being only about that? Not me.moreless
  • True to character, it's Damon bang-on!

    8.5
I would think the reason Damon so abruptly broke it off w Elena is that a) both of them have just been through an incredibly traumatic experience - with the kidnapping, and the torture and the druggings... - and b) essentially Damon feels disgusted by all the things he's done, for which he hates himself, and even more so he hates that Elena has found about some of the worst things he's ever done, and he feels very guilty for letting Elena see those things! This makes him hate himself even more.

Furthermore, Elena shows & tells him she still loves him, she does not suddenly despise him now - which is what Damon feels he deserves, and what he expects because no-one has ever loved him unconditionally before Elena. And right now, Damon cannot bear her love or forgiveness - he cannot believe that's even possible - and so, in typical Damon style, he pushes her away, like he does to everyone whenever he feels he'll only hurt whomever's close to him! And this is probably Damon's darkest time - he never told a soul about his 5 years being tortured - not even Stefan! More guilt, largely about Enzo.

IMO, this was actually a very cleverly-written episode, and quite accurate, in terms of both Damon's pathology and behavioural patterns - psychologically dark yet accurate - and realistic at a more general level: none of us would behave rationally after escaping from some evil crazy vivisectionist doctor/torturer (for the second time)! I was shocked of course at the time too, but Elena & Damon still love each other immensely, they'll get back together soon enough! They're all just traumatised & in shock, so worry not...moreless
  • Repetative

    5.0
Coming from a major fan who has watched since the pilot, I am very disappointed with this episode. There was LITERALLY no signs that Damon and Elena's relationship was on the rocks, and all of a sudden they break up? I don't like the direction the show has gone in this season. In all honesty the only storyline I have truly enjoyed is Katherine's battle with mortality. I hope they don't kill her off, she is a great complex character! Very very sad to be this disappointed in a show that I used to love...moreless
  • disappointing repeating show

I bet that the break up wasn't planned. They just had to write it into the storyline the last minute, why did Damon even break up with Elena? Was it really because he is not good for her? He has established so many times that he is not good for her and selfish and he still hasn't left. He got forgiven for killing Jeremy Elena's brother and so many innocent people, does he really think Elena cares about Enzo, a vampire she spoke to for 2 seconds and didn't even know. Or is it really the fact that they broke up in real life and the producers and the director don't want to make them feel awkward. but that argument when he told her to stop defending him, i saw Nina and Ian arguing if you know what i mean not Damon and Elena. i know that they are actors and actresses but it was too real. also, they are repeating the same things, Damon and Elena arguing and breaking up. If Elena goes back to Stefan which will probably happen because he will find out that they broke up and comfort her and confuse her until something happens so he can rub it in Damon's face. Why does Stefan act like the innocent? he treats Damon horrible, yeah Damon killed people but most of the time he just eats and the erases their memory but Stefan is worst because he rips them apart so he has probably killed more people than Damon.moreless
