I believe you were thinking of blood ties not true blood and true blood is doing awesome. Where this new series is concerned it reminds me of Twilight, Vampire boy, Human girl Forbidden love and a dash of suspicion and the evil factor and you have a hit besides Stefan will have the girls screaming as with Elena who will cause guys to watch just to see her. Overall I believe this show will be spectacular. Moonlight was a show about a vampire P.I. that aired on NBC for 1 season.

True blood is a definite success, Moonlight was actual a good series that was getting better which makes me wonder if the Global Financial Crisis was the cause of the show being cancelled - Its far too early to comment about the Vampire Diaries there is an element of Twilight, and the show cannot be taken in the same context as Bram Strokers Dracula but more like Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Blokes or true horror fans may not like the way a vampire is going to be displayed BUT I can see why a lot of young women will be attracted to the show just as they were attracted to Twilight.

Moonlight was on CBS. It was a very good show that deserved more than that network could give it. If it had been on NBC, which has a far better track record with shows that aren't procedural cop dramas, it might have survived longer.

Anyway, While I don't agree with the original posters reasoning, I do agree that this show is "doomed to fail". The CW, in my opinion, wasted a prime opportuity to attract more viewers in a silghtly older demographic. Instead of maintaining the original story and working with the already existing fanbase, they altered the plot to try to attract the teeny bopper twilight fans. I am 24 years old and have been a fan of the books since middle school; I am also a member of one of the most covetted demographics among advertisers. I will not be watching this show. There are too many changes (drug dealing BROTHER! Seriously!) that put me, and I'm sure many others like me, off. Will this show attract a younger teenage following? Probably, but it could have been so much more.

Well to my surprise it wasnt that bad, I went in to watching this thinking it was gonna be pure crap just like Twighlight. But I actually liked it and I too think it will be The CW biggest hit. It's no True Blood but its still good.

I expected it to be some complete teen crap, but it was actually pretty good. It gave me a Roswell vibe with some teen angst thrown in

The pilot was good, I liked it. So much better than Twilight, and Elena is far better than Bella. Made me think of Buffy/Roswell and Smallville.

god awful teen crap. Obvious cash in on Twilight. I'll give this series a couple more episodes but if it doesn't get any better I'm not watching it anymore.

Could be worse: someone could plug it online using just the show's initials.

"Catch VD every Thursday @ 8PM (7 Central) on the CW."

    All too easily misconstrued. ;-)

I watched about 15 minutes of this before turning it off. As if Twilight wasn't doing enough to ruin vampires, we need more teen-angst undead BS. Complete crap.

I think it has potential, the acting & directing have been rather decent on the first couple of episodes.. i expect at least a few seasons.

Actually, "Moonlight" did have a plot line. Or, at least, a weekly subplot. Would Mick and Beth (the blonde reporter) realize their love for each other? And, they did! Nor it was it an ill-fated acknowledgement like that between Nick and Natalie, during the still-disappointing series finale' of "Forever Knight."

Had CBS possessed the good sense to renew it for a second season, it would have had an even more intriguing subplot; the identity of the unknown party who sent that Big Black Book of vampire names to the DA's office!
