  • Season 1, Episode 9

What an excellent episode of The Vampire Diaries we have here. This is a very intense great episode. A lot of secrets are revealed in this episode that just keep me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire episodes. All of the actors were on their A game in this episode and the writing was just awesome. The writers definitely know how to write and make suspenseful scenes that end on a cliffhanger and tonight this episode was not short of anything, it had every single thing an episode of CW's best show and one of the best shows on television should have!

  • Secrets revealed

So.. episode that felt like major developments.. Specially as much more of the brothers' actions were cleared out.. All, ofcourse, for the Caroline. So.. the past hunts those who it has always hunts and it feels weird.. I do not know.. I watched it.. the episode felt major and so much story development, but in the end.. I do not feel like it was such a huge step forward. I like that they give some answers but.. The tension is just never rising. It as its ups and downs but the continues tension is missing. I cannot say that it is bad, but it leaves me bothering.moreless
  • It's good

I am pleasantly surprised with this show and I don't know why the books never got to my hands because as an avid reader, I would've read them all.

Elena was right, I don't blame her for wanting to tell Bonnie the whole truth, she needs someone to talk to about the situation and the need increases when Stefan keeps it all inside. And too bad that now that she wants him by his side he makes a decision that really saddens her.

The seance scene was scary and I wonder where this subplot Emily subplot will go.

Looking forward to watch the next episode.moreless
  • We learn the real reason Damon refuses to leave Mystic Falls. Bonnie's ancestor Emily is haunting her. The new history teacher Alaric Saltzman comes to town and seems interested in Jenna. Matt and Caroline seem to bond.moreless

All around a great episode. A number of excellent storylines are played out and we learn the truth about why Damon has refused to leave Mystic Falls.

The Emily haunting was interesting. Of course the summoning was a crazy idea, but people who play with fire... literally.

The Damon/Stefan dynamics seem to have changed a little. Not that one would expect Damon to really rehabilitate after one hundred plus years. He does seem to realize he has wronged his brother in a significant way so he is trying not to be such a problem. The story as it plays out about Emily, Katherine, and the historical nature of the episode was very well done.

We are introduced to the new history professor who immediately takes an interest in Jeremy and then in Jenna his Aunt. He has a weird family ring similar to Damon and Stefan's and when he wouldn't enter Jenna's house without being invited we are being drawn in to believe that he might be a vampire.

We also have the little surprise at the end with Jenna as well.

The Matt and Caroline story was a sub-plot and we'll have to see where we are taken with that.

Finally the Bonnie, Caroline, and Elena story was front and center. With their actions and the results in the end we learn that Bonnie will be aware of what is going on now and Elena has realized she can deal with Stefan, but Stefan has promised to leave as he doesn't feel Elena will be safe.

Man this little town seems to have a lot going on for such a small population!

A very entertaining and informative episode and maybe the best overall of the season. It will be interesting to see how these new stories and situations play themselves out over the second part of this first season. Thanks for reading...moreless
  • Might get spoilery inside

Well...History repeats...I too think this was one of the best episodes so far, I still have high hopes for the rest of the season. We get a little bit of everything - A blooming romance between Matt and Caroline, a new- and misterious character (not so much for those who have read the books and know about him)the new history teacher, a secret revealed - why is damon in mystic falls? and a whole new world of possibilities to chose from for what happens next. I enjoyed the acting in this episode, it took Paul Wesley further than the other episodes, in my view he was finally given the chance to act as something other than the brooding type, even if it was just in a role reversal act.

Also, they finally showed Damon's soft side,we got a glimpse at what motivates him to act the way he does. Hopefully there will be more of that in the episodes to come...but still I also kinda hope he won't change so drastically to make him seem schizophrenic.

All in all a great episode, hope to see more of this.

P.S. I know there was hardly any mention about elena and bonnie, they do get a lot to do in this episode, but nina dobrev is still somewhat wooden in what she does. It's all the same, in every episode she gets to do what she did the one before - cry a little, be confused or smile happily only to fall into depression again.

I am a little more impressed with bonnie in this episode, she actually managed to make "emily", well herself be emily and ensure the fact that we got two different people on our screen.

9,5 since i am not ready yet to give it a 10.moreless

  • TRIVIA (0)

  • QUOTES (14)

    • Elena: You weren't in class, I was worried.
Stefan: Yeah, I got your messages, and...sorry I didn't get back to you. But what I want to say shouldn't be said over the phone.
Elena: A simple "I didn't kill my brother" text would have sufficed.
Stefan: I didn't kill my much as he deserved it.

    • Bonnie: I can't talk to you, you don't listen!
      Caroline: That's not true!
      Bonnie: I'm a witch.
Caroline: And don't we all know it.

    • Stefan: Now what do you want with Katherine's crystal?
      Damon: She didn't tell you?
Stefan: We had other things on our mind.
Damon: I could rip your heart out and not think twice about it.
Stefan: Yeah, I've heard that before.
Damon: I have a bigger surprise, Stefan. I'm gonna bring her back.

    • Damon: I got the town off our back, it was for the greater good, but I'm sorry. And to prove it, I'm not going to feed on a human for at least a...week. I'll adopt the Stefan diet, only nothing but feathers.
Stefan: Because I realize killing your closest and oldest friend is beyond evil and yet, somehow it's worthy of humor.
      Damon: Are you mimicking me?
Stefan: Yes, Stefan. Now that the secret society of vampire-haters if off our back, I can go back to my routine of "how can I destroy Stefan's life this week?"
Damon: And I can go back to sulking and Elena-longing and forehead brooding. This is fun, I like this.
Stefan: And I will finally reveal the ulterior motive behind my evil and diabolical return to Mystic Falls.
      Damon: Yeah...I'm done.

    • Elena: I'm sorry, Stefan. I thought that I couldn't be with you, but I can. You don't have to push me away. I can do this.
Stefan: I can't. I...I have to leave, Elena. Too many people have died, too much has happened.

    • Caroline: That's twice, that is two heys, you have any other words in your vocabulary?
      Matt: What's wrong with hey?
Caroline: It reeks of awkward subtext. You spent the night in my bed. There was...cuddling, and then you snuck out before dawn so you wouldn't have to face me. Which I must say, is a total lame guy move that I did not appreciate. Now the heys? Seriously? I mean, I may have been some pathetic, insecure mess after the party, but do not mistake that for me being a pushover. Because I do not let guys mess with my head anymore.

    • Stefan: Are you telling me that Katherine is alive?
Damon: Well, if that's what you want to call it. She's been trapped in a mystical holding cell for the last century and a half. But you're an expert on starving a vampire, so how do you think she's doing, Stef?

    • Saltzman: (to Jeremy) You know that your old teacher had a jackass file? No joke. It's, uh, typed on a label. It has all the troublemakers in it. But really, it's just an opus to you.

    • Bonnie: I'm gonna scream.
Damon: Oh, no. Don't do that. Let's stay on point.

    • Stefan: You could always just leave, find another town to turn into your own Gas 'n Sip.

    • Caroline: Let's summon some spirits. This Emily chick has some serious explaining to do.

    • Damon: What are we doing here?
      Stefan: Bonding.

    • Stefan: This isn't about love. This is about revenge.

    • Stefan: You're blaming innocent people for something that happened 145 years ago.
Damon: No one here is innocent!
