Viewers can call (919) 399-2507, Isobel's cell phone number shown during the episode, and hear a recorded message from Stefan, Elena and Damon.
The text message that Alaric sends to Stefan lists Isobel's number as (919) 399-2507. The 919 area code is associated with the Raleigh, North Carolina area. This is the same phone number that Elena used to call Isobel in season 1, episode 15.
Goof: When Tyler turns back into a human and Caroline goes to help him, she picks up a lamp. When she kneels down next to him she puts the lamp on the floor and it rolls over. Then camera shots to Tyler's face and back to the whole picture and the lamp is sitting straight.
Possible Goof: After Bonnie seals the door to Elena's house to prevent her from leaving, it sounds like she says, "It's for the best, Nina." That's the name of the actress, Nina Dobrev, who plays Elena, not the character.
Goof: At the beginning of the episode when Elena returns to her room after going into the hallway to check on the noise, she pulls back all the blankets on her bed. However, when the shot cuts back to her in bed, Elena is only under the red throw.
On the missing posters for Aimee Bradley at the high school you can see her date of birth is March 16, 1994.
Goof: The back of Elena's shirt has significantly less blood than was shown in the previous episode, when it was completely saturated with blood after the injuries she sustained while linked to Katherine.
Goof: In several scenes in the episode, Caroline's scarf moves from loosely draped around her neck to tighter against her neck as the camera angle changes.
Goof: When Bonnie and Jeremy are in his room, Bonnie pulls her spell book and a notepad from her bag. She rips a piece of paper out of the notepad, sets it on top, and starts writing. When the camera changes to the close-up shot of her writing, Bonnie is writing inside the notepad and not on the loose piece of paper.
When trying to locate Elena after Bonnie casts the spell, Jeremy states that her location is over 300 miles away. Charlottesville, VA (slightly north of fictional Mystic Falls) to Reidsville, NC where Bonnie's spell tracks Elena, is approximately 150 miles, half of what Jeremy states.
Several times during this episode, it appears as if Katherine is not wearing her lapis lazuli stone necklace and is walking around during the day without being affected by the light. However, she now wears a lapis lazuli bracelet.
Fire spinners, fire eaters, stilt walkers and jugglers at the Masquerade Ball were all performers of the Imperial Opa Circus, a local Atlanta performing group.
After Caroline saves Stefan and Damon from her mother, Damon drinks the dead deputy's blood to regain his strength. However, in 162 Candles (Season 1 Episode 8), Damon gave Sheriff Forbes vervain, and she said that she was going to give it to all of her deputies.
Goof: When Sheriff Forbes is being held at the Salvatore's, she hands Damon his cell phone and he puts it in his back pocket. When the camera angle changes, Damon is holding the phone in his hands again.
Goof: Bonus material from the DVD reveals that Katherine's date of birth is June 22, 1642. However, in season 2 episode 9 it is revealed that Katherine gives birth to her daughter in 1490 and meets Klaus in England in 1492, more than 150 years before her supposed birth.
Bonus material from the DVD reveals that Katherine's date of birth is June 22, 1642 which Elena confirms is also her own birth date. That makes Elena's date of birth June 22, 1993 given that her 18th birthday is celebrated in the first episode of season 3, which takes place in 2011.
Goof: When Stefan and Caroline join the party at the Lockwood swimming hole, the makeup around Caroline's eyes varies from very dark to barely visible as the scenes change.
Goof: When Caroline is at the hospital, she puts on the necklace Elena gave her that contains vervain, and it burns her skin. However, Stefan has handled Elena's necklace on several occasions without any ill effects.
Commonly Mistaken as a Goof: When Bonnie turns on the hose the handle turns clockwise, which should turn off the faucet.
The hose, however, is connected to a gasoline tank and all faucets on gasoline tanks turn the opposite way to normal faucets as a safety precaution.
When Elena finds John in the kitchen and calls 911, she tells the dispatcher that her address is 2104 Maple Street. However, at the end of the pilot episode when Elena invites Stefan into the house, the numbers above the door say 935.
