This one seemed sort of like a summer-replacement episode of One Step Beyond. The performances came off a little dubious, especially the lead actor and the delinquent/murderer guy. It all had the feel of one of those live shows from the Golden Age that everyone seems to remember very fondly, and yet that don't really measure up too well on the revisit. Perhaps it is just the memory of the excitement and newness of the whole business that continues to elicit such strong feelings long afterwards.moreless
  • A shipping clerk sees a murder take place in the apartment across the street from his own--three days before it happens.

This episode sounds like a cross between "Rear Window" and "One Step Beyond," but it actually works extremely well. The direction is paced very well, and the cast does a good job with their respective parts. As with the best episodes of this series, Boris Karloff plays a pivotal role, this time as the Bellevue psychiatrist who is convinced that the lead did not hallucinate the crime that he witnessed. Not only is this episode one of the best from "The Veil," but it also gives a tantalizing glimpse of what this show could have been, had it ever been given a shot. It outclasses most "One Step Beyond" episodes (which also dramatized "true" events) and could even stand alongside quite a few "Twilight Zone" episodes in terms of overall quality.moreless
