  • Dr. Venture is at it again! This time they are on a boat searching for his fathers ship that crash landed when Rusty was a child. While submerged Rusty manages to awaken the captain of the wrecked ship. Causing chaos on the boat and in the sea! Great showmoreless

This is one of my favorite episodes from the Venture brothers. Not only is this episode cleverly written (like always) but it is a riot! Rusty as usual is trying to find one of his fathers old experimental ships that crashed into the sea when he was just a child. But ofcourse the plan gets foiled when the ship is invaded by a group of "ghost pirates"! It doesn't take long for the boys to figure out that the ghost pirates are con artists. Especially when they see a particular pirate who's zipper is clearly seen by anyone within a 10 foot radius! Brock starts wiping the floor with the supposed pirates, proving that they are really just some guys dressing up like pirates! Meanwhile Rusty is stuck at the bottom of the sea with his only means of recording his expedition, a tape recorder. He begins to narrate his foiled adventure as he slowly waits for the water to break into his tiny, one man sub. Somehow the Venture Team manages to awaken the ghost of the crashed test aircraft. Now we have a real ghost joining the party! To bad all he can do is scream. He scares the crap out of the phoney pirates causing a scuffle! After a few attempts to fight the ghost, everyone notices that the ghost isn't really threatening, he is just more annoying because all he does is scream. So the boys decide to call good old Dr. Orpheus for advice. With the help of Orpheus the boys locate the ghosts wife, who is still alive but is living with the ghosts co-worker! Causing the ghost to keep on screaming! Even Brock beats the tar out of the ghost but it doesn't help. This is one of the best Venture Brothers episodes ever! I give this one a 10 because the laughs are non stop! If you haven't seen this episode you are missing a riot of chaos and laughs!!moreless

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • When Brock is first sneaking up on the pirates, he drops his knife and says "Aw, dammit." Immediately after this, he runs up behind the pirates and attacks them. The knife can be seen still in the sheath attached to Brock's belt.

    • When the ghost of Major Tom's skull lands on Dr. Venture's underwater robot, he's wearing his helmet even though Brock knocked it off with his first punch. Also, when the body lands, you see that his left arm is still intact even though Brock broke it off.

  • QUOTES (18)

    • Brock: I want you to put your hand around your throat, Hank.
      Hank: Uhh...all right.
Brock: That tube you feel is your trachea, think of it as a handle. Your thumb is on your carotid artery, that's your button. Now remember - grab the handle, push the button. Repeat that back.
Hank: Grab the handle, push the *chokes*
Brock: Let go of your own throat, Hank.

    • Dean: You scheme was very clever, very clever indeed, but he's no ghost!
Pirate Captain: Oh ya think genius? What tipped you off - was it the huge zipper, maybe the rubber mask? But you had to kill him anyways. If you'd played by the rules - the ghost pirate rules - and just run away, none of this would be happening! But nooo, you had to go nuts and kill a guy!

    • Pirate Captain: What kind of "expert bodyguard" ties men up with big bows?

    • Mass. Pirate: We need that key to stash your boat, Mr. Big Stuff - let's have it.
      Brock: It's up my ass.
      Pirate #1: Are you serious?
      Brock: Why don't you check?
      Pirate #1: Well? Check!
Mass. Pirate: But what if he's lying?
Pirate #1: If he were telling the truth, that would be better?!?

    • Dr. Orpheus: Do you have a pen, Hank?
Hank: To use as a magic wand?
Dr. Orpheus: To use..as a pen, Hank.

    • Dr. Venture: I just learned that giant clams don't like the taste of exploding robot legs.

    • Dr. Venture: Oh yeah, I lost my locator, and yes I realize the irony of that

    • Pirate Leader: Your insolence will not be tolerated... uh, again. Hey is that guy dead?
      Brock: Yeah, probably
Pirate Leader: Oh, c'mon was that necessary? Really!

    • Brock: Hank, if there was ever a time in your life I needed you not to be Hank, it's now.
      Hank: Uh, sorry, Brock.

    • Brock is chained up, and talking to Hank through his communicator watch
Brock: After the twist, you'll hear a snap. Then the body goes ragdoll on ya.
Hank: And that will knock him out...even more?
      Brock: That'll kill him
      Hank: Do I have to?
Brock: Alright fine, crybaby. Just tie him up and, maybe I guess gag him. But at the first sign of trouble I want you to at least break both his knees.

    • Dean: Dad is super serious all of a sudden. Do you really think he's in as much danger as he says he is?
Brock: Oh yeah, he's screwed. I give him about an hour before he panics and begs for us to haul him up.
Dr. Venture: Okay guys, I can hear all this!

    • Pirate Captain: So where is this 'Brock' guy?
Dean: He's..hiding..and..waiting to save me!...with...guys. (grins)
Pirate Captain: You're..not a very good liar, Dean, are ya?
      Dean: Mayyyybe!

    • Dr. Orpheus: Hank? Are you sure it isn't a guy in a rubber mask messing with you?

    • Brock: Hey, Captain, I've got your key. Hope you're hungry, because I'm going to feed it to you.

    • Mrs. Tom: Tom, it's your wife, sweety. You're dead now – it's time to go.

    • Brock: Focus, Hank! Whatever you do, don't light a cigarette. A good sniper can see a hot cherry for miles.
      Hank: Brock, I don't smoke!
Brock: Good. Now's a lousy time to start.

    • (as Brock bests up the fake ghost pirate)
Pirate 1: Oh crap, he's getting his ass kicked, let's go save him!
Pirate 2: You crazy? My sword's made of cardboard.

    • Hank and Dean: Go Team Venture!
Brock: (shrugs) ...I don't know, they just do that.

  • NOTES (2)

  • ALLUSIONS (5)

    • Random Pirate: wearing T-shirt that says RELAX
A reference to those "FRANKE SAYS RELAX" shirts of the 80s.

    • Sargasso Sea setting:
The very first episode of Jonny Quest was set in the Sargasso Sea.

    • Dr. Venture, Sr.: Ground control to Major Tom...
"Ground control to Major Tom" is a lyric from rocker David Bowie's hit song, Space Oddity.

    • Various: Bowie lines
Most of the lines at the beginning are from David Bowie songs. TVC 15 was mentioned, the "Action Man" stuff is from Ashes to Ashes, as is the "ashes to ashes," and from "I think my spaceship knows which way to go" on for a while is Space Oddity.

    • Dr. Orpheus: Are you sure it isn't a guy in a rubber mask messing with you?
An obvious reference to another Hannah-Barbera cartoon from the 60s and 70s, "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?". As everyone who's heard of it probably knows, the "ghosts" the Mystery Inc. gang encountered in that show were always guys wearing masks, and usually trying to cover up some crime.
