  • The X-1 crashes in Underland, where the family is captured and joins a resistance army. Meanwhile, Dean is set to marry Baron Underbheit.

Two weeks ago, we were graced with the episode "Twenty Years to Midnight". One week ago, we watched "Victor. Echo. November." This week, we got "Love-Bheits", which did not live up to the previous episodes. Don't get me wrong, I thought the episode was funny. I mean, it had the Magic 8-Ball Man, Hank's obsession with being Batman and Baron Underbheit wailing on H.E.L.P.eR. for no reason, but it just wasn't enough to live up to the likes of the Grand Galactic Inquisitor (IGNORE ME!!!). Still, it set up for the future where Underbheit starts living with the Monarch. It was an enjoyable episode, but not the best.moreless
  • Misplaced love, a modest resistance movement, and a couple of eunuchs.

So, do we really need another down-on-his-luck super-villain in this series? Seriously, the Baron had the resources of a small country at his disposal and couldn't get to Dr. Venture, so how is he supposed to be threatening hanging out on the Monarch's couch? At least the cocoon seems to be up and running again, with a full complement of henchmen. I miss those henchmen guys.

Too, too much of Dean's ass. Male nudity only gets you so far in my book, and Dean's ass missed its stop a couple of blocks back. A Princess Leia costume? Really? What guy wears something like that? And I'd think that the Baron could do a little better than a bony little teenage boy. Although judging by the looks of Underland, maybe his only other option was Girl Hitler. Not a lot of prospects in a place like that.

But there were some bright spots: Cat-clops, the resistance fighter of modest aims; Brock in a Chewbacca suit; and...ummm...I don't know, the Monarch was in it. That was alright. Not so good as last week's episode, but still worth a few chuckles. Oh yeah, the palace guard with testicular cancer. That was classic.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

  • QUOTES (9)

    • (Hank is dressed up as Batman, much to his father's annoyance)
      Hank: I am the Bat!
Dr. Venture: Yes, yes. You're The Bat! And The Bat is the reason why we didn't take Best Group Costume... again! Last year, it was Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion, and The Bat! Oh, and how about the time we were the hard-rocking quartet of Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley, and The Bat?!?
      Hank: The night is mine!

    • Dean: I don't know, Pop, they won fair and square. The Impossible Family made a really convincing Fantastic Four.

    • Dean: Everybody, get in the black box! It's indestructible!

    • Hank: My butt won't stop making a fist.
Dean: At least you have one.
Dr. Venture: You're blessed with your father's ass, Dean. Learn to love stadium cushions.

    • Baron Űnderbheit: It's as I always say, hopelessness is the greatest aphrodisiac… in Űnderland.

    • Hank: The Wallflower! So we meet again!
      Reistance 1: Wha?
Brock: The Wallflower had that thing on his head.
      Dr. Venture: Lamest. Villain. Ever.

    • (Hank makes hand gestures)
Brock: You have no idea what that means, do you.
      Hank: Sure I do.
Brock: You're just having fun with your hands, aren't you.
      Hank: No.

    • Brock: No, Hank, it's suicide!
Hank: Then I'll see you in Heck!
Dr. Venture: Hey, maybe he'll surprise us. He does get that kind-of retard strength when he's all worked up.

    • Catclops: Yeah! You mess with the cat and you get the claw!
Girl Hitler: You mess with the girl and you get the Hitler!
      Catclops: Marry me.

  • NOTES (0)

    • Hank's Costume
Hank is wearing a vintage trick-or-treat costume of the DC Comics superhero Batman (which he wore occasionally in several episodes), but talks like the modern post-1989 "Dark Knight" version of the character.

    • Dr. Venture: Chewie, lock down auxiliary power!
This quote is an homage to Star Wars: A New Hope, where Han Solo gave the same direction to the co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon, Chewbacca. However, the writers got the quote wrong, because Han asked Chewie to lock in the auxiliary power, not lock down.

    • Űnderland
The name of Baron Underbheit's territory, Űnderland, is a reference to Wonderland from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland.

    • Brock carrying H.E.L.P.E.R.
Near the end of the episode, Team Venture returns to Michigan, and Brock (in his Chewbacca costume) is carrying H.E.L.P.E.R. (in pieces) on his back. The style in which Brock carries him also help contribute to the reference made from The Empire Strikes Back, where Chewbacca is carrying C-3PO when Han Solo is being frozen in carbonite. Like C-3PO, H.E.L.P.E.R. is the recovered broken android.

    • Dean: I'm a boy science adventurer, like my father before me.
The second half of this line is part of a famous quote from Return of the Jedi, where Luke Skywalker recognizes himself as a Jedi, like his father before him.

    • Venture Costumes
The Venture costumes (other than Hank's) are from Star Wars: Dean as Princess Leia in the metal bikini from Return of the Jedi, Dr. Venture as Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Brock as Chewbacca. Later Dean dons the more traditional white robe and hair buns.
