DOCTOR O!! Took 'em long enough to give us our favorite necromancer. There was a lot going on in this episode but it still managed to keep decent pacing and make sense, and from this show, that's about all I ask. There were a number of decent reveals, as well, which made it that much better. It was interesting that this seemed to be the first episode copyrighted in 2013, as well, so we're finally into new material rather than leftovers. Hopefully that means the series will start making more progress and more sense over the rest of the season.moreless

    • Dr. Venture: And no sexting.
Dean: Do you even know what that means?
Dr. Venture: GIPO, I'm FOL, Code 9. TTYL. That's "Get your pants off. I'm fond of leather. My parent or guardian is near. I will talk to you later" in sexting language. Daddy is hip to it, Dean.

    • Dean: Aww! I knew she wasn't our mom. That would have been a good thing, and I don't get good things.
Hank: Yeah, it's just too bad that a raving lunatic that wanted to make you a baby again and then push you up her lady hole isn't our real mom. Real tragedy.
      Dean: Yeah, good point.

    • Dr. Orpheus: Magic reveals little more than questions. She is a capricious light that tickles the intellect and begs us to peer into the newly illuminated truth.
Dermott: Yeah, that's, uh, totally confusing.
Dr. Orpheus: Then I, again, have done my job.

  • NOTES (1)

  • ALLUSIONS (3)

    • Hatred: Doc, these are the kinds of trees that disembowel scarecrows looking for wizards.
Referencing L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900) and subsequent movie adaptation in 1939. Dorothy and the Tin Man travel through the Haunted Forest and find the Scarecrow, torn to pieces and left to "die."

    • Dermott: Like freakin' Dr. Bombay?
Referencing the fictional witch, and doctor, played by Bernard Fox on the 60s sitcom Bewitched. he later went on to play the same character on the spinoff series, Tabitha. He could be summoned by yelling "Calling Dr. Bombay! Calling Dr. Bombay!"

    • Indian breaking out of the asylum:
The Indian asylum patient picking up a drinking fountain and throwing it through the barred window of the asylum references a similar scene in the 1975 movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Chief Bromden (Will Sampson), a mute Indian, escapes at the end after his friend is lobotomized.
