Has anybody heard that this show is going to be remade due to the success of British remake shows like The Office? It's confirmed because I saw something in production weekly (for people who don't know this is a listing of shows/movies ready to go into production looking to crew up) called "The Ministry of Divine" which describes it as a reimagining of the show Vicar of Dibley. I wonder if it will be good?

Its really anoying when american networks decide to take something that works as a program and redo it with american people. If they do it, it won't have any of the charm of Dibley.

Woo, yet another show for the American's to rip off. Why can't they just create their own shows?

I really hope they decide to abandon this idea.

It'll be crap... Why mess with perfection?

Only Dawn French could ever play the Vicar and only Emma Chambers could ever play Alice

How Are they going to do it, from my understanding churches here and in the US are totally different and you don't see alot of small villages like Dibley mentioned in the US.

Although it's not true that they're totally different the humour doesn't have to be based on any particular religion. And have you ever seen the Simpsons? Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel is supposed to be a sterotypical Hillbilly - a person from a small isolated inbred farming village in the US. Just like the inhabitants of Dibley. Having said all that... I still wouldn't agree with a remake, it's to risky that it would fail.

The title suggests Christianity, however a sitcom based on yokels would be a bit boring I think, lol.

To tell you the truth, as soon as I saw the title, I thought 'Oh dear.'
I hope they do not remake it. I never really got into the American Office, to be perfectly honest, and as mentioned in the posts above, this concept wouldn't work for Dibley.

    I agree, I DON'T want it changed for us Americans. I love the Actors and Accents. I think shows like;

    Robin Hood
    Life on Mars
    Skins
    Spooks
    Hustle Torchwood
    Primeval

Should NOT be messed with, and aired in the US as is. I probably missed a few, but those are awesome shows, and I LOVE some of the women in them. I'd love to live there, if only I was younger. I should have gone when I was. You people are lucky.

    lol calm down everyone.

It might not be exactly the same, give it a chance before you knock it back. I agree that the Vicar should not be messed with but you never know, it could turn out to be funny.

I read in TV Guide magazine, that Kirstie Alley is supposed to play the "vicar" in the FOX remake. If the writers are decent, then it could work. Kirstie Alley has the right sense of humor for this kind of sitcom.

I'm going to wait and see before I make my decisions. Personally, I don't think anyone can take the place of Dawn French, but let's wait and see.

I think the show works because of the way that Britain is, I think you'd be hard to find that in the US. I think its gonna be a tough formula to make funny with a US backdrop. While we have farmland and family farms, there arnt many communities that are really like that here, and women priests arnt controversial except in Catholicism. It might be funny to try with a gay priest though, that'd make it controversial the same way women vicars were when Dibley started.

You could even push it to a lesbian priest?

I think it's a non-issue because they're not going ahead with the show. We haven't heard any news on it in so long.
