HE'S ALL GROWN UP AND READY TO KILL EVERYONE
... The Walking Dead's Glen Mazzara is writing a new sequel to the classic horror film The Omen. And he's writing it for Lifetime, the same network that once aired the horror of Jennifer Love Hewitt giving handies to strangers on The Client List. Mazzara, in his first TV gig since getting the boot from The Walking Dead (which he oversaw during the show's steady growth into the big hit it is today), is developing Damien, which will follow the evil boy from the original film into his adult life as he accepts his status as the Antichrist. So this is a show about Mario Lopez? Haha I got you again, Mario Lopez! But seriously, why the F is project headed to Lifetime? Will every network soon be all horror programming? What happened to the days where people sang happy songs on television and gave each other hard candies? [THR]
... Game of Thrones aired its seventh episode of the season on Sunday, which means it hit a new ratings high. 7.2 million viewers tuned in to see the Hound get all touchy-feely, just a hair above Episode 5's 7.16 million. "Mockingbird" marks the fourth time this season that Game of Thrones hit a new ratings high, because the show just keeps getting better and better. I reviewed the episode, and of course there are .GIFs galore! [HBO via press release]
... More ratings! Almost 5.2 million viewers tuned in for Barbara Walters' last day on The View on Friday, making it the show's fourth-highest telecast ever. [ABC via press release]
... The Halo TV series that I've been looking forward to ever since I first teabagged a friend in Halo: Combat Evolved while hosting a LAN party at my house (I was the coolest back then) is finally, definitely going to exist. So much so that it even has a premiere window! The Steven Spielberg-produced live-action series, which was announced about a year ago and is based on the hit video-game franchise, will debut in fall 2015 and (presumably) be exclusive to Xbox One. The show's debut will be timed to the release of Halo 5: Guardians. OH YEAH BABY! In other news, I am a grown-ass man who gets excited for video-game releases. Still hip after all these years. [GameSpot]
... You can watch the premiere of AMC's Halt and Catch Fire, the '80s-set series about the rise of personal computers, before its June 1 debut. On AMC's Tumblr page. YEP. Halt and Catch Fire will get a two-week preview on the social-media and .GIF warehouse site, making it the first TV series to bow on the internet's most popular destination for disturbing fanfic. The first episode will also live on AMC.com and video on-demand services (I just checked, and it's available via my Comcast subscription). Halt and Catch Fire stars Lee Pace as a computer revolutionary, and you can bet it will be very high on our list of most anticipated new series for summer 2014. [AMC via press release]
... E! has taken out its hammer and chisel and carved a premiere date into the face of its schedule for Botched, a series following two plastic surgeons who try to fix plastic surgeries gone bad. Look for it on Tuesday, June 24 at 9pm. Or, you know, don't. [E! via press release]
... SundanceTV has renewed its reality series Dream School for a second season. The show follows high-school dropouts who are placed in a "school" taught by accomplished celebrity instructors. This year, the teachers include 50 Cent, Public Enemy's Chuck D, chef David Chang, television personality Adam Richman, and figure skater Johnny Weir. [SundanceTV via press release]
... Under the Dome has cast Brett Cullen (Person of Interest's Nathan Ingram) as Don Barbara (haha, sounds like a female mafia boss), father of Barbie. He'll appear in several episodes and come face-to-face with his son, so I'm guessing he spent Season 1 hiding in a barrel under the dome. Also, I'm seeing lots of people refer to Cullen as Lost's Brett Cullen. It's Person of Interest's Brett Cullen, people! [TVGuide]
... Showtime's Masters of Sex is welcoming two to its cast. Courtney B. Vance (FlashForward, Law & Order: Criminal Intent) will join the show on a recurring basis as Dr. Hendricks, an African-American doctor who's trying to integrate his hospital. Rene Auberjonois (Benson) will guest-star as Dr. Papanikolaou, the father of the Pap Smear. The second season of Masters of Sex begins Sunday, July 13 at 10pm. [Showtime via press release]
