AIRED:
Judge Garth is hosting a meeting at Shiloh Ranch between a US Army General and the Chief of the Sioux (Iron Eyes Cody) as someone is trying to stir up trouble between the Indians and Army. He manages to send most of the hands away to keep the meeting secret. Four men arrive including Trachsel (Darren McGavin) and the Utah Kid (David Carradine), and they take the remaining residents hostage intent on killing the Sioux Chief when he arrives. However, the criminals did not reckon on the abilities of Judge Garth and Betsy's visiting friend, young Chicago newspaper reporter Eddie Tighe (David Macklin).moreless

    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • Aside from question over the names of the neigbours Wingate or Moran (see notes), there is one continuity error. Randy Boone is shown leaning against a door and starts to move. The camera switches to a different angle and he is still and begins to move again.

    • QUOTES (1)

      • Judge Garth: "I believe in justice; the rule of law."

Trachsel: "Well, I'll tell you what I believe Judge -- I believe the big dog gets the meat. You know something else Judge, I believe that's the way its meant to be."

        Judge Garth: "For dogs maybe".

    • NOTES (5)

      • Without a script it is unclear how Trachsel's name is spelled -- it is listed in at least one other synopsis as "Troxel".

      • Trampas and Steve Hill do not appear in this episode.

      • The character of Eddie Tighe (played by David Macklin) was introduced in the earlier Season 2 episode "The Fortunes of J. Jimerson Jones" when Judge Garth and Betsy visited Chicago.

      • The couple played by Roy Engel and Frances Morris are listed in the end credits as playing "Joe and Mrs. Moran" but in the episode they are referred to as the "Wingates" by all including the Virginian.

      • Alex the cook was a minor but recurring character in earlier episodes but he is unceremoniously killed off here, almost as an afterthought.
