        I found this on imdb.com

Yesterday on Country Music Television (CMT) I saw
a Waltons special entitled "A Decade of the Waltons". It looked to have
been done back around 1980 or so. It was 2 and a half hours long and
was lots of memorable show moments from all the episodes.

For instance they showed the fire in the family home, they also
showed Mary Ellen having her baby, all of which was narrated by the
creator of the show Earle Hamner, the voice we always hear at the
beginning of each episode. You also get to see what he looks like. He
    was younger than he sounded.

The last 30 minutes of the show they showed the creators real life
family that he based the Waltons on. These people were shown talking
with their actor character. For instance MAry Ellen was talking with
the real Mary Ellen and asking her what she was doing now, was she
really a doctor. It showed each character talking to one of Hamner's
real family. It was interesting to see. You could tell his family was
reading off a teleprompter because they were talking in monotone voices
like Ben Stein- but it was nice to see the real "Waltons".

THIS MOVIE WILL BE REPLAYED on June 15th at 11:00 PM Central
Standard Time. It lasts for 2 and a half hours and will be shown on the
CMT channel (COUNTRY MUSIC TELEVISION) (Its shown at night PM NOT AM)

Hope this helps anyone that hasnt seen this before and would like to.

I've seen it and have it on tape.  If this special is ever released on DVD, I'll probably buy it.
