it was a sad but good episode at the same time. Although it seemed strange that the family couldn't see that Grandma wanted to do the chores, it was a good episode. It's sad from beginning, but heartwarming at the end when grandma recites, in her sick voice, "You Old Fool!" and then hits Eb on the back with a broom. I reccomend this episode 100% to people who haven't even ever saw th show. I know that i loved this episode. . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . ~Old Shows Finaticmoreless

    • Opening Narration: A house alone has little meaning. It's the people that live there who bring it to life and give it character. All during my grandmother's absence our house and everyone in it seemed to long for her return. Grandpa never stopped hoping that she would come home, and finally there came a day when his prayers were to be answered.

    • Closing Narration: My grandmother had finally come home, and once again she became her old self, giving us the benefit of her wisdom and love. That old house will always live in my memory, especially when it comes time to say, "Goodnight."

  • NOTES (2)

    • The German episode title is "Ein schweres Schicksal", meaning "A Serious Fate".

    • Ironically, this episode not only marks Ellen Corby's return to the series after her crippling stroke that occurred during production of the fifth season, but it also marks Will Geer's final performance as Grandpa Zeb before his untimely death just weeks after this episode was filmed.
