  • Can working-class-born, university-educated Nigel Barton win a safe Tory seat for the Labour Party?

    9.0
The slow erosion of a man's principles as he runs for office is the subject of this famous play by Dennis Potter. Nigel Barton - a fine performance by Keith Barron - wants to be a Labour M.P. for the very best of reasons, but he has to make so many compromises along the way that it hardly seems worth it by the end of his campaign. The climax, where Nigel decides, "The hell with it!", and rounds venomously upon his Tory opponent at a public meeting, is unforgettable - he may have ruined his chances of ever being a Member of Parliament, but he's become a man. If only real candidates would speak up as Nigel does in this scene!moreless
