Episode Summary

EDIT
As the staff prepares for the presidential debates at a North Carolina conference center, a vexing question about a failed attorney-general nomination (amid charges of racial profiling) leads to flashbacks of the administration's first weeks in office. Back then, Toby's marriage to Andrea Wyatt was about to end; now Sam and Charlie are helping him in his effort to reconcile with her. Meanwhile, the Israeli Air Force weighs in on the Qumari matter, and Joey Lucas reports that the president is likely to lose New Hampshire.moreless

  • I love flashback episodes on West Wing...

    9.0
... because they always have such a lovely inside of the char, open up some totally unknown things like Donna's first day at the work and the rocket thing..

So, this episode somehow lingers between past and reality and just could not make up which matters more. Now is good as they have amazing debat and the whole thing with Sam.. playing president's opponent and their humor.. It was good and Josh getting Amy's help and ... worth it all.

But past.. a more look into the way chars came, more knowledge on their decisions and why things are like they are. Josh.. and the rocket thing.. already mentioned.. seeings Mrs. Landingham there again.. It was good.moreless

    • After Toby announces that Andy's pregnant
Charlie: Well, we're gonna have to step this [Team Toby] up now.
C.J.: Yer! I'm gonna get hats!

    • Bartlet: For the moment they (Qumar) haven't stood up. But in the meantime, let's try and think of something to give them when they do.
Leo: That's what we should do in the meantime?
      Bartlet: Leo.
Leo: We should think of something we can give them?!
Bartet: Honey, if we're gonna have this fight, can we not do it in front of the Joint Chiefs? It just scares the hell out of them.

    • Josh: Why don't you just do your job as a man and get that nice girl pregnant?
      Toby: I did.
      Josh: Wait, what?
      C.J.: What?
      Toby: Andy's pregnant.
      Josh: Toby, Andy's pregnant?
Toby: With twins. (holds up one finger, then raises another finger on that hand)
      Sam: This is incredible.
      Josh: And they're yours?
      Toby: Yeah.
      Josh: Both of them?
      Toby: I'm going downsatirs.
      (C.J. hits Josh with magazine)

    • Sam: What'sgoing on with you and Andy?
      Toby: Nothing.
      Sam: I think you're wrong.
      Toby: I'm not.
Sam: I think you're getting back together.
      Toby: We're not.
      Sam: But you want to.
      Toby: Yes.
Sam: I think -- Wait, what?
Toby: See, sometimes if I just slam on the brakes you just run right past.

    • Toby: Andy? Couple of things. I need you to look at a couple of answers on defense readiness. I need concrete examples of waste in Pentagon procurement. We need teo more members of the IRC for post-spin. I need you to fill out this marriage licence and paperwork for a joint checking account, and review the 60 second answer on Rwanda.
Andy: Okay. Okay. Okay. Under no circumstances, and sure.
Toby: See, by my account, you said "Under no circumstances" to the IRC post-spin and "sure"...
Andy: I said "Under no circumstances" to marrying you again.
      Toby: May I ask why?
Andy: I have the unique experience of having done it once before.

    • Bartlet: I agreed to be locked up with you people for 48 hours, how much time do I have left?
      Leo: 47 hours, 41 minutes.

    • Barlet: So we are, as always, one bad bottle of tequila away from all-out war in West Asia.

    • Toby: An 84 year old Welsh nurse hands you a brown paper bag with a cup and a video, and points the way toward a room. I won't even tell you the name they have for this room.
      Andrea: What's the name?
      Toby: I won't tell ya.
      Andrea: Why?
      Toby: It's not a good out-loud word.

    • Josh: We need an answer on Rooker.
Bartlet: What's wrong with "Bite me"?
      Josh: I think we'd lose.
      Toby: Not in New Jersey.

    • The fight song Sam and his group sings is an old song from 13th century Germany. The lyrics are as follows:

      Gaudeamus igitur, juvenes dum sumus!
      Post jucundam juventutem,
      post molestam senectutem,
      nos habebit humus,
      nos habebit humus.

The language is Latin, and the song exists in many different countries around the globe.
