  • Trivia

    • Goof: During the open Abbey Barlet asks her husband, President Barlet, who in their right mind thought January would be a good time to hold an outdoor ceremony north of the equator.  He replies with the names of several Founding Fathers (Jefferson, Adams, Franklin).

George Washington took office on April 30, 1789 (not in January).  This was the original date, as set by the Founding Fathers.

The 12th amendment to the Constitution (ratified September 25, 1804 and passed by Congress on December 9, 1803 (submitted to the states on December 12, 1803) set the date the President and Vice-President taking office as March 4th of the year following the election for President.

The 20th amendment to the the Constitution (ratified on January 23, 1933 and passed by Congress on March 2, 1932) set the date for the President and Vice-President by changing the date from March 4th of the year following the election to January 20th of the year following the election.

Thus it wasn't possible for Jefferson, Adams, nor Franklin to be those not their right mind by setting January as good time to hold an outdoor ceremony north of the equator.  It was the elected officials of 1932-1933.

The writers goofed by not knowing both American History nor the Constitution.  The actors goofed by not catching the error during the production of the episode.

  • Notes

    • Jed: Nancy, how's your mother doing?
Nancy: She's fine now, Mr. President.
Jed: Tell her I'm looking forward to seeing her again soon. Will you, please?

Nancy is played by Renée Estevez, Martin Sheen's real life daughter.

    • Abbey: When's the last time you drove a car?
Jed: It's just like riding a bike.

This is joke about the first series premiere when the President's staff has to deal with the crisis of the President crashing a bike.
