  • Features a good guest spot by Ricardo Montalban, but otherwise run-of-the-mill.

Maybe my expectations for "TNOT Lord of Limbo" were too high. I had read and heard comments that this was one of the best episodes of "The Wild Wild West," but despite an imaginative gimmick and a good villain in Ricardo (KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!) Montalban, the whole show is just alright.

The real treat here is watching Montalban as a Confederate war veteran(?) with a time travel plot to change the outcome of the Civil War. The problem is it takes way too long to get to the heart of the story. Jim is sent on a bizarre time traveling jaunt to rescue an amnesiac Artie (who fancies himself a Southern gentleman looking for a duel). And by the time the crew arrives back at the Battle of Vicksburg, Montalban's plan fails to take into account the actual events of the battle, so he's foiled again. I don't know, if he wanted to go back and kill General Grant, why not go back and kill him while he sleeps?

Watch it for Montalban (especially the scene where, having regained his legs, he slowly descends his staircase). But this one isn't even one of the best of Season 2, much less of the whole series.moreless
