My favorite character is probably Stringer Bell. The way he carries himself, he's just so cool and in control.
I like McNaulty too, even though he is such a ****-up.

Let me know who your favorite is, and for the sake of everyone, no spoilers

It's a tough one for me. Stringer was definatly the man, smart, charismatic, not all violent and out of control. I liked how he brought all the people together, showed the benefits of working together instead of against each other.

Omar has always made me smile, though, even though if I was just to hear about his character and the **** he pulled, I'd hate him. But for some reason, his cocky, no-bull**** attitude made me like him.

Omar is far and away the most interesting character on The Wire. One of the best characters in television history.

I'm watching the first season again ($20 used at GameStop; great condition; I feel like a thief), so right now I'd have to go with Jay Landsman because (1) the come-backs ("And here I thought we were friends" line during the Bird interrogation and "F___ you and your dots" in the first episode spring to mind) and (2) the real life Jay Landsman shows up in Season 3.

Close second for Season One would have to be D'Angelo Barksdale.

I like the gangters who have a different twist on what you would typically think about them. Stringer Bell, a high-level crime family member who takes college classes and reads The Art of War. Omar,  a stick-up "kid" who does not rob on Sundays.

For me, above and beyond every character that came before or since, it's Frank Sobotka that stole my heart.  Everything about the man floored me, thinking about his slow walk under the bridge still stops me in my tracks.

You also can't beat a bit of Bunk, the man has a funny line for every occassion.

Halfway through the fourth series and I'm seriously loving the character of Snoop.  Is that just pure evil or what?
