If it is...who is it based on and if you have links on the real life faces please post them up. Thanks.

A lot of the story is based off of real things that happened while Ed Burns was with the BPD and David Simon was with the Baltimore Sun. The two of them co-authored a book together called "The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighborhood" where some of the smaller things come from as well as David simons first book "Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets." Avon barksdale is based on Melvin Williams who plays the Deacon in later episodes. The real life Jay Landsman (who is a main character in the Homicide book) plays Lt. Dennis Mello in Season 3.

Omar's character is based on a stick-up kid called Apex. There's a pocket book available as a guide to The Wire. Maybe try and find that, I want to read it also.

one of the books is from hbo called: The Wire>Truth Be Told. it has to deal with seasons 1-3, and gives tons of backstory to alot of the real life stuff this series is based on. a definite read for wire fans. even Simon's book is an excellant read.
