  • Intrically plotted, this episode ups the stakes in the war between Marlo and Barksdale's organization; between Royce and Carcetti; between the school and the students; and between Omar and everyone else. No wonder this one is called "Refugees".

Again, this reviewer marvels at the plate-balancing act that the writers of this series are able to pull off with each and every installment of The Wire.
With such a dauntingly large cast to devote time to, they nevertheless manage to involve most of them meaningfully in the story line of each episode. And they never seem to drop a subplot; in fact many of them re-weave their way back into the narrative in surprising ways. Who would have ever thought that Beadie from Season 2 would reappear in a significant role? Or that Prez would be heard from again after the tragic accidental shooting last season? These folks really know what they're doing.
