  • The fever-pitched pace of the last episode continues in this one, but the action now centers on the cops' furious efforts to find Kima's assailant... if only the brass would let them get on with it, instead of political grandstanding.moreless

    "Superb"
The episode picks up at the scene of Kima's shooting, with the force going into frenzied but efficient overdrive, literally beating the bushes for clues. In a standout scene, McNulty breaks down with guilt and is comforted by none other than Rawls. Stringer makes plans to limit the damage by giving up Savino on a lesser charge, sending Wee-Bey off to Philly and getting Little Man in check- permanently. Bubbles tries to page Kima and gets snatched up to the station by the suspicious cops as well as catching a beatdown from one overzealous investigator. McNulty rescues him and enlists him in the search for the shooter. The downtown brass demands a citywide series of raids to save the Department's face in the wake of the shooting- confiscating "dope on the table" that they can parade in front of the media. So the troops reluctantly comply, and Herc and Carver pocket some confiscated cash at one of the busts. All of the elements work in this episode; while it is not action-packed, the ensemble cast meshes beautifully, the writing is sharp and true to life, and the story continues to be totally engrossing.moreless

    • Rawls: You, McNulty, are a gaping asshole. We both know this. Fuck if everybody in CID doesn't know it. But fuck if I'm gonna stand here and say you did a single fucking thing to get a police shot. You did not do this, you fucking hear me? This is not on you. Edit
