  • One of the best.

    9.0
It was rare for the early years of this show not to have scripts that were dead-on every time - perfect re-creations of what everyone went through growing up. And this episode was exceptional in that regard.

A person goes to a dance with another person for varying reasons - and someone (or several people) wind up getting hurt. All part of the labyrinth of trying to figure out which end is up in adolescence. The whole situation is beautifully and thoughtfully handled in this exceptional episode. Everyone's good but Maia Brewton as Linda is a standout!moreless
  • My favourite episode to date.

As this series is being re-run and I never watched it at all when it originally ran this is my favourite episode to date and it occurs at the ending of the episode like two ships sailing into the night never to cross paths across a gym floor at a school dance.

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • Paul says he's been dating Carla for 3 months. Didn't Paul start dating Carla last season?

    • Kevin enters in the lunch hall and looks at Susan Fisher. In the meantime his shoulders (with his recognizable dark green shirt) appear behind Susan in the nearest table. In the next sequence Kevin is still on foot at the entrance.

    • In science class, Kevin takes off his protective glasses. He turns around and then in the next shot he is wearing them again.

  • QUOTES (2)

    • Narrator: In the game of life, there are few certainties. In fact, most things are left to chance. There's someone for everyone, we're told. But the search for that one person to ride through life beside is serious business. Especially when you're thirteen. It's a matter of trial, error... and pure dumb luck.

    • Narrator: It was the first heart I'd ever broken. And in a way, my own heart was aching a little, too. It didn't seem... fair. I really liked Linda, but the fact was... I just didn't feel about her the way Susan Fisher felt about... Donald Wallach. Maybe she'd just been toying with me, or maybe she used me to get back with Donald. In any event, it was pretty clear... Paul wasn't the only one who had been fooling himself. All our young lives we search for someone to love. Someone who makes us complete. We choose partners, and change partners. We dance to a song of heartbreak, and hope. All the while wondering if somewhere, somehow, there's someone perfect... who might be searching for us.
