  • Trivia

  • Quotes

    • Narrator: And then sometimes, you knew you shouldn't do it, but you just couldn't help yourself. You gave him lip. I guess we really didn't understand why he was so hard on us sometimes. Because sometimes, and I remember these times so distinctly, my dad could be great. He could be so much fun. You never wanted that feeling to end.

    • Narrator: When my father had a bad day at work, he'd just sit in the dark by himself and watch TV. We learned early on that this was a danger signal and we adapted our behavior accordingly.

  • Notes

    • This episode marks the first time Jack's office and his company, NORCOM, are seen.

    • This episode was voted as TV Guide's 29th all-time episode.

    • Danica McKellar (Winnie Cooper) doesn't appear in this episode, although she is signed in the credits. This marks the first episode of the series not to feature Winnie.

    • Featured Music:
      "Blackbird" by The Beatles
"Buckle Up For Safety, Buckle Up" by National Safety Council

    • This episode is credited by many as being the one that snagged the "Outstanding Comedy Series" Emmy for "The Wonder Years" in 1988 (beating out already defined series "Cheers" and "The Golden Girls"). This is also the episode that was responsible for earning the series' renewal for a second, third, and fourth season in one single three-year contract (The writing was so rich and earnest, that the network just couldn't foresee its future without 'Wonder'!), something that seldom happens in television. Also, when the series finale originally aired on ABC, TV Guide wrote an editorial ('A Farewell to Wonder' by Barry Golson, May 8-14, 1993 issue) that made references directly to this episode and no other!
