The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

Show Summary

The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz is an anime adaptation series based on four of the original Oz books by L. Frank Baum which originally ran on the Japanese network TV Tokyo. It mainly consists of 52 episodes.

In 1987, HBO purchased the rights to the series and dubbed it into English and production was done by the Canadian studio Cinar.

Characters:

Dorothy Gale: The main heroine of the series. She's a little girl who came to live with her uncle and aunt at a farm in Kansas, after losing her parents. She landed in Oz after a tornado blew up the farm away, so her quest is to find the way through the yellow brick road and ask the Wizard of Oz to return her home.

Toto: A puppy uncle Henry gave Dorothy as a present.

Scarecrow: The "brainless" scarecrow follows Dorothy to ask the Wizard of Oz for a brain.

Tin Man: The Wicked Witch of the East transformed this originally human being into a tin man, so he wouldn't have any emotions. He follows Dorothy and Scarecrow in order to ask the Wizard of Oz for a heart.

Cowardly Lion: Dorothy and the crew found this particulary playful lion chasing a butterfly. Although he's not showing any coward actions during the series, he follows Dorothy and the crew to ask the Wizard of Oz for courage.

Uncle Henry and Aunt Em: While Uncle Henry worked very heard on the farm to provide the family, she worked at home and took care of the farm's animals and of Dorothy. Later, when Dorothy returns home to Kansas with the help of her magic shoes, Aunt Em and Uncle Henry refuse to believe Dorothy's tales of her adventures in Oz, dismissing them as hallucinations.moreless
