Show Summary

The World of Chemistry is an award-winning television series hosted by Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry Roald Hoffman. The show aims to be an introductory to chemistry to students as it illustrates the concept of how matter behaves and reacts between substances, its laws and principles. It is composed of 26 half-hour episodes with Stevens Point professor emeritus Don Showalter as the series demonstrator. Don performs various experiments in his laboratory and shows many chemical processes such as making aspirin or extracting iron from iron oxide, or salt from common household products. The program covers topics about the atoms, molecules, bonds, and development of the periodic table. It then goes into more advanced topics such as the important role of acids and bases, examination of 20 basic amino acids, and structure and role of DNA and RNA. The series includes interviews with other notable scientists and explores the scientific world of academic research.
