  • 3 Superfriends are sent to the Planet Of Oz, thanks to Mr. Mxylpltk, the villain from the 5th dimension. The heroes sent are: Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman. They are then changed into Tin Man(Superman), Lion (Wonder Woman), and Scarecrow (Aquaman).moreless

This episode got better after the heroes arrived at Oz. It was pretty stupid the first few minutes with Batman riding this corny vehicle called the "Bat-Blimp". I have seen some crazy vehicles in my time, but the BAT-BLIMP? Where in the world did Batman (or the writers) get such a retarded idea? It was good to see Mr. Mxylptlk again with throwing his insults at the Superfriends. The episode wasn't all that bad, just that pitiful "Bat-Blimp" haunts me today. You'd almost think that Green Lantern could've socked that twister a good one with his power ring, but did he appear on this epiode. Sadly, no.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • Wonder Woman's depiction of the Cowardly Lion is patterned after the famous portrayer from the 1939 musical film of "Oz", Bert Lahr.

    • The episode title refers to "The Land of Oz" which was created by Lyman Frank Baum in 1900.

    • When Wonder Woman is the Cowardly Lion, she does not get her red boots back until she, Aquaman and Superman reach the Wizard.

    • Superman is able to outsmart Mxyzptlk by using his heat vision to change his lead suit back into tin, thereby rendering his formula useless. But how can he change one metal into another? Not until Firestorm comes later in another SuperFriends incarnation would any of them have the capability of doing this.

Both Aquaman and Superman's depictions of the Scarecrow and Tin Man were patterned after the two famous portrayers from the 1939 musical film of "Oz", Ray Bolger and Jack Haley.

  • QUOTES (0)

  • NOTES (2)

    • This is the second episode of the "Super Friends" series to have Superman and Wonder Woman participate in literary realms. The first time was in "The Challenge of the Super Friends" episode, "Fairy Tale of Doom" where Superman participated in Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels" and Wonder Woman participates in Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland".

    • Batman, Robin, and the Wonder Twins have very minor roles in this episode. Jayna's is smallest with a non-speaking cameo.

    • The little creatures that capture the three heroes near the end seem curiously like the Jawas from Star Wars.

    • Superman: Somewhere over the rainbow.
Superman quotes this line at the end. The whole episode is based on Lyman Frank Baum's 1900 fairy tale novel, "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" as well as the 1939 musical film adaptation. His quote is a reference to where the tornado took him, Aquaman and Wonder Woman.
