A The X-Files Community
FOX (ended 2018)
Better later than never. Jaap Broeker, aka "The Stupendous Yappi" on two episodes of The X-Files, passed away of a stroke back on January 19.

Mr. Broeker worked primarily as a stand-in, on shows ranging from The X-Files to Smallville to Supernatural. For those not up on the Hollywood lingo, a stand-in... well, stands in for an actor when the director of photography is determining lighting, when the camera operator needs to determine distance and focus, and when the actor isn't present and the other actors need someone to rehearse against and recite dialogue. The job requires a great deal of patience since the stand-in... stands for long periods of time while the actual actor is off elsewhere.

Apparently Mr. Broeker just had the kind of face and skin tone that matched a lot of actors. He stood in for both John Schneider and Tom Welling on Smallville, and David Duchovny on The X-Files. His two appearances as the Stupendous Yappi--a bogus over-the-top TV psychic--are his claim to fame in a career where he spent most of his time out of sight of the audience.

Supernatural
honored him in the 4/15/15 episode with a memoriam card at the end of the episode. Actors such as Jim Beaver and Mitch Pileggi who worked with him posted on Facebook at the time, commemorating their friend.

Mr. Broeker will be missed.

You can see him below at the 0:19 mark.

Jaap Broeker was awesome as "The Stupendous Yappi".... He had way more talent than just being a stand-in. Cool that the " Yappi" character gave him his 15 mins.....he was too funny. RIP Jaap Broeker

It has been so long since I have seen X-Files and I really don't remember those episodes. It is good to see him honored even when a lot of people probably don't know who he is.
