  • great episode

No conspiracy or lonegunmen, but a good healing story, scary People and such. We also see Mulder sceptic about seeing his sister.
  • It's the Faith Healer Episode that Every Show Needs

Always an easy target for writers, here we have the faith healer episode. The plot gives us the cliche shyster and his rock-show-like ministry along with his assistant that can channel faith to heal--for a small sum of cash. It does manage to keep the viewer's attention as the mystery of the killings unfold; of course, it's not hard to figure out who's doing it and why.

THIS EPISODE WANTS US TO BELIEVE IN: Healing/Raising the dead/Killing by touch

A relatively believable episode, even with the character who comes back to life in the opening scenes. Otherwise, there's no real indication that Samuel has any powers greater than the power of suggestion. Mulder always seems to be at the right spot at the right time, but that's business as usual. By golly, Mulder is going to solve this mystery, no matter how long it takes--these special agents apparently have a lot of free reign!moreless
  • Mystery of the healer

This episode was another mystery when a man called Samuel who can supposedly heal the sick and people who are dying but some go wrong.Samuel also tells Mulder about his sister and Mulder believes in him and he sees her a few times after that throughout the episode. When Samuel was killed his body was no longer in the morgue but people claimed to have seen him walking but the people may not be very reliable witnesses.moreless
  • Miracle Man

I am a Deist. Always find something that I do not like the religions in which I delve, especially exaggerated explanation of wanting to explain everything and that God's image collector and vindictive they propagate. Faith really is something very relative, who balances on total credibility to some and a great deception for others, and none of the two groups will hold the final answer, never. Questions of faith, the existence of a spiritual plane and the action of God through mere mortals comes into question in this strong episode of "The X Files", rummaging through strong religious dogmas and of course never forgetting something supernatural surrounding the plot. It was very funny when I learned that when the network Record showed the series, this episode was blocked, only to see the truth and courage with which it was exposed. The Universal Church of the Reborn in Christ, there are many that can be docked in the same situation, of miracles and healings cost a lot of money, of misrepresentation and manipulation reign be right under the noses of people, often the most "faithful "who accept everything chewed and pre-determined by false prophets and end up losing not only the ability to sense the critic who really believe, but joining an army of faithful blind. Of course, not all churches fit here, for God's sake! ... Despite all this unbelief abundant, the episode gets carried away by the apparitions of spirits, and who would say, the real belief in the existence of theological beings. Scully believes in the spiritual world (especially the death of his father), and Mulder witnesses constantly figure of his sister in several places, questioning whether she is or some trick of that young woman with divine powers, able to perform miracles. The man who once held the "healing power", now see it go as a result of his pride. God's punishment or failure in the structure of the Church corrupt? It's just one of many issues. The episode shows that it is only in the scientific and political lies and conspiracies live, they go step by step with the lies in a large universe of ambiguous information. Climate, seriously and dealing with a sensitive issue and "uncriticizable" so mature and intelligent, that you can not say that this was another good setting for the series.moreless
  • Miracle Man

Miracle Man was a superb and very entertaining episode of The X-Files because there was a lot of action, suspense, intrigue and mystery. I liked how well written and played the story was. The characters were good and had lots of chemistry. It was fun watching the agents investigate this type of scenario and seeing it in action. I like how every thing played out, though Samuel met a sad end. I certainly look forward to watching the next episode!!!!!!!!!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • When Mulder, Scully and Sheriff Daniels call at the Hartley mansion, it is raining heavily along with thunder and lightning, but neither Daniels' hat, Mulder or Scully's hair or their clothes show any sign of having gotten wet.

    • When Scully reads through the list of diseases that have been healed by Samuel one of them is 'spontaneous remission of metastatic cancer', which is exactly what will happen to her five years in the future.

    • Plot Hole: When Margaret Hohman dies at the miracle service, Scully only takes her pulse. Wouldn't she, as a medical doctor, try to revive her using CPR?

Edit: CPR is not used to revive anyone (although many TV shows make it seem that way). The main purpose of CPR is to keep oxygenated blood flowing to the major organs until advanced medical care can be given. However, it is true that Scully, as a doctor, should have acted on that emergency.

    • Continuity: In the establishing shot of the courthouse the subtitle reads 'Kenwood County Courthouse' but you can clearly read on the building that it is the 'DeKalb County Courthouse'.

    • Mulder: You must have really liked The Exorcist? The Exorcist is a 1973 horror film about a young girl believed to be possessed by the Demon Pazuzu after all medical tests prove negative. The movie was an international success, was nominated for 10 Academy Awards and is still regarded as one of the most effective horror films.
